#GSPCAPurpleWeek Starts Today – Celebrate 153 Years and Help Support Our Biggest Wishes

Today marks the start of #GSPCAPurpleWeek, a week dedicated to celebrating the GSPCA’s 153 years of caring for the animals of Guernsey, and an opportunity for the community to come together to support the charity’s vital work.

Throughout the week, the GSPCA is encouraging islanders, schools, businesses, community groups, and individuals to “Go Purple” in any way they can—whether through fundraising, awareness activities, donations, or simply helping spread the word.

This year, the GSPCA is highlighting its Wish List, which features several essential funding priorities that will help secure the future of the charity, improve services for animals, and support the ambitious #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal.

Our Current Funding Wishes

There are many ways to make a meaningful difference:

£40,000 for Solar Panels for the New Wildlife Hospital
To ensure the new Wildlife Hospital is as environmentally friendly and cost‑efficient as possible, the GSPCA is seeking support to complete the solar installation.

£1.9 million for the #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal
The charity continues its largest development project in history—rebuilding key facilities including the Wildlife Hospital, kennels, and ferret housing. Every donation, large or small, brings the GSPCA closer to completing these essential buildings.

£10,000 for New IT Equipment
Updated technology is urgently needed to support the team’s work, helping staff and volunteers care for animals more efficiently and safely.

Amazon Wish List Items
From everyday essentials such as food, toys, heating lamps, and cleaning supplies to a brand-new Animal Ambulance, supporters can purchase items directly for the animals in the GSPCA’s care.

Buy a Brick or Sponsor a Room
Supporters can leave a lasting legacy in the new build by buying a brick, sponsoring a kennel, room, or specialised area in the new facilities—a unique way to celebrate a loved one, pet, business, or personal milestone.

Quote from Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager

We are incredibly proud to begin #GSPCAPurpleWeek as we celebrate an amazing 153 years of helping animals in our island community. This week is all about celebrating that history while looking to the future. Every donation—whether it’s a brick for the new build, a pack of food from our Amazon Wish List, or support for our solar panels—helps us provide the very best care for animals now and for generations to come. We are so grateful to everyone who gets involved, wears purple, raises funds, or simply shares our message. Together, we can make an enormous difference.

How You Can Get Involved

• Wear purple for a day or dress your workplace, school, or window in purple
• Organise a purple-themed fundraiser—cakes, quizzes, raffles, sponsored walks
• Donate to the GSPCA’s Wish List or Buy a Brick campaign
• Share #GSPCAPurpleWeek on social media to raise awareness
• Support the Amazon Wish List to provide essential items for animals in care
• Make a one‑off or regular donation to help the charity continue its work
