Last Tuesday many of the artists and sponosrs were invited by Autism Guernsey and the GSPCA to Government House for the Official Launch of the Puffin Parade.

Both Autism Guernsey and GSPCA are extremely grateful to Mrs Cripwell who is the Patron of Autism Guernsey and the Lieutenant General Richard Cripwell CB, CBE who is the Patron of the GSPCA for making all feel so welcome and host what was a wonderful start to the Puffin Parade.

Lieutenant General Richard Cripwell CB, CBE and Mrs Cripwell kindly unveiled one of the 60 Puffins which is sponsored by Sovereign Guernsey and decorated by local artist James Colmer.

Since that day the GSPCA team with volunteers from Guernsey Freemasons to those keen to help have been get the Puffins in place have assisted with the huge operation of getting them to their 60 locations.

59 Puffins are located around Guernsey with the one in Herm having a picture and its location in the White Rock area for those unable to get across and so that all islanders can complete the Puffin Patrol treasure hunt for without having to catch the boat.

The Guernsey Puffin Parade app is found on Turfhunt and can be downloaded by going to

iTunes https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/turfhunt/id517635959

Android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.locatify.treasurehunt&hl=en&gl=US

Once downloaded search for the one closest to you or via the app and follow the instructions.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “What a wonderful evening we had last Tuesday at Government House with Lieutenant General Richard Cripwell CB, CBE and Mrs Cripwell to launch the Puffin Parade which is in aid of Autism Guernsey and the GSPCA.”

“It was so nice to meet so many of the sponsors and artists and for the first Puffin to be unveiled.”

“This morning the last few Puffins arrive at their locations and it is wonderful to see it all coming together.”

“There are so many thanks to say from those that helped with the plinths to the many delivery teams from the GSPCA, Guernsey Freemasons, a local Deputy and others keen to help, the paint donated to the artists, sponsors to the website, storage to carriage, our teams at Autism Guernsey and the GSPCA and of course last Tuesday to the Lieutenant General Richard Cripwell CB, CBE, Mrs Cripwell and their team at Government House.”

“We are now officially in Puffin arrival month as the real birds start to nest along our incredible coast line, we have now placed 60 giant Puffins around the Island and don’t worry the one in Herm has its location with a picture at White Rock so all on island can complete the hunt without having to venture across, but for those that do they can see another fabulous decorated Puffin.”

“The Puffin Parade treasure hunt app is called Turfhunt and is available for free on itunes and android.”

“The Puffin Parade is now in place until September and then the auction, raffle and results of the quiz will take place all of which will raise much needed funds for Autism Guernsey and the GSPCA.”

Mandy Rowlinson at Autism Guernsey Manager said “App instructions are on our website www.puffinparade.org.gg .”

“If you complete the trail using the app you will be entered into a competition to win a rib voyage for 2 adults and 2 children kindly sponsored by Specsavers Guernsey, plus other prizes.”

“You can also now purchase the quiz and raffle tickets from Imperial Hotel St Peters Post Office Les Cotils and GSPCA, Guernsey SPCA. “

“The first prize for the quiz is an iPad kindly donated by Dominion Fund Management Ltd, plus other prizes.”

“We also wanted supporters to know that Herm Island have kindly sponsored and painted a puffin, hence why it is being displayed on Herm.”

“We really appreciate that not everybody can afford or able to get to Herm to see this Puffin, therefore we have displayed a poster on the railings at the Herm & Sark Quay (Inter Island Travel) in order that individuals taking part in the app and quiz competitions will be able to complete them without losing points.”

“This poster also includes a competition being run by Herm Island Ferry.”

“The Puffin in Herm is displayed outside the Herm Shop and we would love the public to take a photo of this puffin and share on social media.”

“We would also ask the public to email [email protected] with their 3 favourite photos of the Puffins in order that these may be included in our Puffin Calendar which will go on sale later in the year.”

Steve continued “As part of the Puffin Parade there will be many ways to get involved and support which you can find out more by checking out the website https://puffinparade.org.gg/ which has been made thanks to EnjoyCI and facebook page https://www.facebook.com/gsypuffinparade .”

"Those not able to see the Herm Puffin will of course get the chance to see him in the feather if you like, when they all come together to be auctioned off to raise much needed funds for Autism Guernsey who celebrate their 10 year anniversary this year and the GSPCA who are celebrating 150 years at an event at St Pierre Park in September."

If you can help with additional raffle prizes please contact Mandy Rowlinson at Autism Guernsey on 232879 or [email protected] or Steve Byrne at the GSPCA on 257261 or [email protected]
