With the current challenges we all need cheering up and what better way than sharing an update on an animal happily adopted from the GSPCA.

Priscilla was adopted at the end of 2019 and just before the lock down we had this update rom her owner -

“She has been with us for nearly four months now and has really settled in. She’s found her favourite spots (on the back of the sofa in the sun or in the bay window being nosey) and we’ve learnt her cheeky habits (her slightly unladylike scavenging makes us to keep a very tidy kitchen).

Prissy had a blood test recently after feeling unwell for a few days, and the vet put her on a stronger dose of her thyroid tablets. She’s had a follow up test since and the vet is very happy with how she’s doing. She’s definitely back to her normal self but is unimpressed with her shaved neck as you can see!

Thank you again for taking such good care of prissy while she was with you. We have a few bits and a lovely soft bed that she’s turned her nose up at that we will drop up to you soon.”

Ali Le Huray GSPCA Animal Care Assistant said “It’s so lovely to hear Priscilla is doing so well in her new home.”

“We have mostly older cats in need of homes and we have lots of animals in need such as degus, rabbits, fish, turtles, ferrets, cats, hamsters, a parrot, cockerels and other animals in need of homes.”

“With our online adoption procedure we have managed to find many of the cats in our care fantastic homes.”

“We love to hear how animals homed from the GSPCA are doing and with our Virtual Pet Show its an ideal time to send some pictures in and you could win prizes.”

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “It is amazing to see the wonderful pictures of Priscilla, she looks incredibly happy and thank you to her owner for sending in the wonderful pictures.”

“Due to Coronavirus the GSPCA is only operating essential services and there is no animal viewing at the GSPCA at this time.”

“All of our rehoming is now online, telephone and through the post as we are avoiding visitors to the Shelter at all costs in line with advice from the States of Guernsey.”

“If you cannot help adopt an animals we have launched our #GSPCACoronavirusCrisisAppeal which you can help the animals in our care by donating via https://giving.gg/donate/event/5876/GSPCA-Coronavirus-Emergency-Appeal or calling us on 01481 257261.”

“With animals still arriving and being rescued unwanted, stray and abandoned the GSPCA have to look at ways we can help rehome animals in our care.”

“These are challenging times and as we are trying to avoid all visitors to the GSPCA we have had to look at ways we can still free space and rehome animals to help those in need.”

“Once we receive your adoption form which we can post or you can download we can then review your application and send you pictures or videos of the animal and set up a video call to do a home visit without you having to come to the Shelter or us to your home.”

“If all looks fantastic and everyone is happy we can look at the options of how we can possibly deliver the animal and the forms after having a chat and making sure the new owner has all they need.”

“With Coronavirus causing very unique challenges and social distancing of paramount importance we have had to look at new and inventive ways at the GSPCA for the safety of our team and the community and ensuring we can get animals through our care to create space for others needing our services.”

“We do ask applicants to please be patient as we are very busy and resources are stretched but we will respond to applicants as soon as we can.”

“We have some cats reasy for homes but they are mostly older or have medical issues at present but we do have some under care and will hopefully be ready soon.”

“We also have many other animals in need from 12 degus to 37 rabbits so please do register your interest.”

“Please remember if you live in rented accommodation or States Housing you need to ensure you have written permission and to see the States Housing procedure please go to https://www.gov.gg/article/119684/Family--Pets .”

“To see some of the animals looking for homes at the GSPCA Animal Shelter please watch our Social Media pages or go to http://www.gspca.org.gg/animals. ”

“The aim of the procedure is to always try to ensure we match up the right animal for the right home.”

“Animals come into the Shelter for all sorts of reasons and we have to ensure each is suited to a home that can meet its needs.”

“The GSPCA is a self-supporting Guernsey charity and we depend on the people of the Island for the funding needed, more so now than ever to maintain our work for the animal welfare and rescue work that is carried out 24 hours 7 days a week.”
