With over 5,000 signatories the web page ‘Ban plastic carrier bags in Guernsey’ has gained a rapid growth of support and response since being launched.

The GSPCA help over 2000 sick and injured wild animals every year and often see litter related casualties.

From sea birds with fishing line caught in their beaks and stomachs to the rare sea turtles which are often casualties to ingested carrier bags thinking they are squid or jellyfish.

Due to the high numbers of sick and injured wild animals the GSPCA are trying to raise funds to build a new Wildlife Hospital and to find out more please visit -

The GSPCA is always trying to do what we can for the environment from recycling to improving the Animal Shelter grounds for plants and wildlife, as well as through our education work.

You only have to go shopping to see the huge amount of plastic that we all use and wouldn’t it be great to have an island that puts our environment first.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “There are so many other products available other than single use plastic and every year we have animals rescued due to human waste.”

“We all have to do what we can for our wildlife and our environment here in Guernsey and at the GSPCA we do all we can from our educational work to recycling.”

“We even have an electric van and we are constantly looking at alternative green energy wherever we can.”

“We are currently fund raising to build a new Wildlife Hospital due to the high numbers of sick and injured wild animals that we help at the GSPCA and we love to see ways that help prevent animals from suffering and improve our environment.”
