IQEQ Volunteers Lend a Helping Hand at the GSPCA
The GSPCA was delighted to welcome a team of volunteers from IQEQ to the Animal Shelter in St Andrew's yesterday, with staff members giving up a day in the office to support the charity's vital work caring for animals and wildlife in Guernsey.
The enthusiastic group arrived shortly after 9am and were greeted by GSPCA Community and Training Officer Tim Pellett before being set to work on a wide variety of projects around the shelter. Throughout the day, the team helped build a new aviary, carried out painting and maintenance tasks, assisted with cleaning duties, supported animal care work, completed grounds maintenance projects, walked dogs and much more.
Their hard work and positive attitude made a significant difference, helping the GSPCA team complete a range of important jobs which often prove difficult to fit into the busy day-to-day running of the shelter.
GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne said:
"We are incredibly grateful to everyone from IQ-EQ who joined us for the day. The team worked tirelessly from the moment they arrived and tackled a huge variety of tasks across the shelter and grounds. Their support has made a real difference and helps us ensure we can continue providing the highest standards of care to the animals and wildlife that need our help."
"Corporate volunteering days are incredibly valuable to charities such as the GSPCA. Not only do they provide practical support that saves us both time and money, but they also allow local businesses to see first-hand the work that goes on behind the scenes at the shelter. We would like to thank IQ-EQ for choosing to spend their day with us and for their fantastic contribution."
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives continue to play an important role in supporting charities and community organisations across Guernsey. By encouraging employees to volunteer, businesses can make a positive impact locally while also providing valuable team-building opportunities and helping staff engage with causes that matter to them.
The GSPCA welcomes volunteering support from businesses, organisations and community groups throughout the year. Corporate volunteer days can be tailored to suit different team sizes and abilities, with activities ranging from animal enrichment projects and gardening to maintenance work, cleaning, fundraising initiatives and helping with major developments such as the charity's ongoing rebuilding project.
Steve added:
"There are always jobs to be done at the Shelter and every volunteer makes a difference. Whether it's helping with maintenance, improving facilities, supporting events or assisting with our grounds, the support we receive from corporate teams is invaluable. We would be delighted to hear from any businesses looking to incorporate volunteering into their CSR programmes."
