On Sunday we held our final Dog First Aid Course of 2014.

We have held many animal care course for the first time this year and we have been overwhelmed by the attendance and also the gratitude from those attending.

Despite the sun shining 6 local dog owners Lynne, Ginny, Derryn, Agnieske, Richard and Stephanie arrived at 9.30am at the GSPCA where GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne went through the principals of first aid and how to care for dogs during an emergency situation.

The training took around 2 hours and then the group had a chance to see the kennels and some of the dogs looking for a home at the GSPCA.

The next first aid courses for dogs and cats will be next year and you can find out more by please clicking herebut we have one more course before the end of 2014.

On Wednesday 12th November at 630pm we are holding our second training session for Pet Bereavement for Pet Professionals and Volunteers although it is open to anyone who would like to attend.

There is a minimum donation of £10 to attend and it takes place at the Shelter. Speakers include GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne and also staff from the Guernsey Bereavement Service.

Whether you work at the vets or a pet store, you are a teacher or pet owner the session is an excellent way to learn about communicating with others during Pet Bereavement.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager "We have a wonderful time here at the GSPCA talking to pet owners and training them in first aid."

"Once again the group on Sunday learning dog first aid were great and I'd like to thank them all for coming along."

"Sadly not every pet can be saved and as pet owners death will sadly touch us all at some point with our beloved animals."

"Everyday the team here at the GSPCA talk to those that have recently lost their pets for many reasons and it is always an emotional experience."

"Our team here at the GSPCA have had training from the Guernsey Bereavement Service and we thought by working together we could stretch out to other animal care professionals and volunteers in Guernsey that would benefit from their expertise in communicating with bereaved pet owners."

"All we are asking for is a small donation which will benefit both charities and we will provide something for those attending to take away."

"At the first session we held earlier this year we had vets to dog groomers and it was an extremely useful and informative session that certainly helped everyone in the room."

Zoe Le Pelley from the Guernsey Bereavement Service said "At the Guernsey Bereavement Service we are delighted to be able to provide this training with the GSPCA for those professionals and volunteers working in the animal care industry around the Bailiwick."

"The Guernsey Bereavement Service is there to help support anyone who has loved and lost, and that includes the many pet owners who face bereavement."
