Volunteer Emergency Wardens Needed to Help Keep the GSPCA's 24/7 Lifeline Running - especially Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights
The GSPCA is appealing for new volunteer Emergency Wardens to join its dedicated team helping provide a vital 24-hour rescue service for animals across Guernsey.
The charity is particularly looking for volunteers who may be able to help cover Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings, assisting with emergency animal rescues, stray animals and urgent welfare incidents outside normal shelter hours.
The GSPCA's Emergency Warden service, operated by a team of trained volunteers, ensures that help is available throughout the night for injured wildlife, animals involved in road traffic accidents, stray dogs, loose livestock and other urgent animal welfare emergencies.
Volunteers can either collect a GSPCA Animal Ambulance and emergency phone from the shelter and provide cover from 6pm until 8am the following morning, or, where appropriate, use their own vehicle with calls diverted directly to them for the evening.
Every shift is different, with volunteers playing an important role in helping save animal lives and supporting members of the public during emergencies.
Full training and ongoing support are provided.
Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager, said:
"Our Emergency Wardens are an incredible team of volunteers who help ensure the GSPCA can provide a 24-hour rescue service, 365 days a year. Every night is different and volunteers may find themselves helping injured wildlife, rescuing stray animals, assisting the Police, supporting veterinary practices or responding to urgent welfare concerns. It is a challenging but hugely rewarding role and one that genuinely helps save lives.
We are particularly looking for volunteers who may be able to help on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings, but we would love to hear from anyone interested in joining our emergency team. Full training is provided and you will be supported throughout. Without our volunteer wardens this essential service simply would not be possible.
We would also welcome enquiries from anyone interested in helping with our Animal Ambulance during the daytime, especially at weekends, as demand for our rescue and collection service continues to grow."
