It’s been a very busy year for grey seal pups and finally the last two Guernsey pups are ready for the wild.

It is planned to release Mambo and Hannah sometime next week and preparations are currently underway.

Once again we are looking to release both locally rescued pups on Jethou as we did for Sealia and Gully back in May.

All seal pups were extremely emaciated and would have likely perished if they hadn’t of been rescued which include two from Jersey.

Marty who was rescued last winter in Jersey was released to the wild in April and we continue to have reports of sightings of him with a new friend regularly in the Écréhous where he was set free by the GSPCA team.

Geoff George Animal Collection Officer and Head of Marine Mammals said “Mambo and Hannah were so thin and poorly when they first arrived and it is great to see them ready for being released back to the wild.”

“They have more than tripled their original weight and we are looking forward getting them back to the wild next week.”

“We are also pleased to report that Andy has made huge progress in the last few weeks.”

“He was struggling to eat on his own but we have been talking to all sorts of experts and he has made great progress in the last week especially.”

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “After months of care it was fantastic to see Gully and Sealia released back to the wild in May and Marty in April.”

“We are hugely grateful to all those on Jethou and Island Rib Voyages who will be helping with the final Guernsey release of seal pups from the last pup season but we still have some way to go to get Andy ready for the wild.”

“We cannot thank all that have helped donate towards their care from fish to funds to help buy the large quantities needed.”

“Hannah and Mambo look so healthy and both being over 50kg they are now ready for the wild.”

“We are busy making all the plans needed and looking to release them on Jethou wll being well with the weather and their progress.”

“We will of course keep everyone up to date and look forward sharing the story of the release next week.”

“We have been busy not only with hundreds of animals through our care recently but work continues to try and build a much needed new Wildlife Hospital.”

“To support our Wildlife Hospital you can Buy a Brick, make a donation or even help support a room or section for the build and anyone who would like to support this build we would love to hear from them.”

"We have heard from Adrew Eeles from Jersey who helped release Marty and its been great to hear he has seen hhim on a number of occasions."

Andrew Eeles from Jersey who helped release Marty said "We often pop up to see Marty."

"He has stayed pretty local to the release area and is often with a slightly smaller and lighter coloured friend."
