The GSPCA is thrilled to announce a significant milestone in the #GSPCABiggestBuildAppealall buildings have now been demolished to make way for the exciting redevelopment of the St Andrews Animal Shelter.

Work is now underway on the Wildlife Hospital, with concrete being poured into the newly excavated foundations. This marks a major step forward in the project, which aims to transform the shelter into a modern, sustainable facility for animals and the community.

To celebrate this progress, the GSPCA is planning a Foundation Stone Event in the near future to honour and thank key supporters who have helped make this vision a reality.

So far, £1,500,000 of the £3,700,000 target has been raised through donations and savings. However, the project has encountered unexpected challenges during excavation, leading to some additional costs. Despite this, the GSPCA remains committed to delivering a state-of-the-art facility.

As part of the build, the GSPCA is now exploring green energy solutions, including solar panels and air source heat pumps for the site. These additions would significantly reduce monthly electricity costs and support the shelter’s environmental goals—but they will require further funding or sponsorship.

The build is projected to be completed by the end of next year, and the GSPCA continues to appeal for support through initiatives such as the Buy A Brick campaign, which helps fund construction and essential supplies.

Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager, said:

“It’s incredible to see the old buildings gone and the foundations of our new Wildlife Hospital taking shape. This is a huge moment for the GSPCA and the animals we care for. We want to thank everyone who has supported us so far. We still have a long way to go, and we’re appealing to anyone who can help—whether through donations, sponsorship, or buying a brick—to be part of this historic build. Together, we can create a shelter that’s fit for the future.”
