Last week the GSPCA were not only thinking about the thousands of animals through our care we were also helping support the staff and volunteers who often see distressing scenes and are faced with cruelty and sadness when an animal cannot be helped not to mention the many other diverse situations the team are facing on a daily basis.

Jo Cottell from Guernsey Mind spent two mornings last week at the GSPCA talking to dozens of staff and volunteers about their work, support and work we all have to look after our mental health and well being.

Tim Pellett GSPCA Communit and Training Officer said “It was brilliant to have the introduction to Mental Health last week with with Jo who gave a very informative and thought provoking presentation of about 30 minutes in duration.“

“We are blessed that we have so many outlets here at the Shelter to defuse any potential concerns we all may have day to day, including the lovely garden and all the giving animals to socialise with.”

“Jo highlighted that we all do wonderful things here at the GSPCA with giving outlets to people from across the communities the opportunity to volunteer, support the Shelter and help with coping with their Mental Health concerns.”

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “A huge thanks to Jo from Guernsey Mind who came and spoke to our team during #GSPCAPurpleWeek .”

“The team at the GSPCA often face distressing and upsetting situations and we have to think of our team as much as the animals as without the staff and volunteers we couldn’t achieve so much as we have for over 146 years.”

“If any business or group are interested in supporting their teams mental health we’d definitely recommend you speak to Guernsey Mind as this is the second time they have been out to speak to the GSPCA team and can really help make a difference.”

“We are always looking at training and development for our team as well as support and if there are any trainers that can come in to talk to our team please do get in touch.”

“We run a number of training sessions here from volunteer inductions to animals first aid and to find out more please visit http://www.gspca.org.gg/services/training-courses .”
