This week a number of the GSPCA team were lucky enough to attend the Association of Dog and Cat Homes Conference in Birmingham which was an amazing experience meeting over 500 animal charity professionals and volunteers learning from leading charity and animal welfare experts.

On Wednesday 1st May as part of the conference the ADCH and Petplan Awards took place with one of the finalists being our very own GSPCA Animal care Assistant Beckie Bailey.

The awards had the most nominations it has ever seen with in excess of 8500 so for Beckie to be in the top 3 in the Animal Charity Employee from across the UK, Ireland, Channel Islands and Isle of Man was truly incredible.

All of the finalists were real stars in the animal welfare world and Beckie certainly shone for the GSPCA and did Guernsey very proud.

We have been very lucky having had two finalists previously in the awards which were Yvonne Chauvel and Geoff George but until this week never a winner.

That was until Beckie this week as she won the ADCH and Petplan Charity Employee of the Year Award.

Comedian Jon Culshaw was the host for the evening and kept the crowds very entertained.

The night itself was sponsored by Petplan and from all of the GSPCA team a huge thanks to all that made it such a special occasion.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “You cannot imagine how proud we all are at the GSPCA with Beckie winning such an amazing accolade.”

“The ADCH and Petplan Awards and truly amazing highlighting phenomenal work that goes on around the British Isles and we were all over the moon when Beckie was short listed.”

“The video they showed of Beckie was fantastic and really showed the GSPCA and Beckie in the amazing light that she deserves for all the hard work she puts in.”

“When they announced Beckie was the winner we all got very excited and all of the audience gave her a huge cheer as she went up, all be it I don’t think she quite believed what was going on at the time.”

Beckie Bailey GSPCA Animal Care Assistant said “Wednesday was such a great night.”

“I’m so lucky to work at the GSPCA.”

“I love my job so much and it was an honour to represent the GSPCA and bore people to death by talking about how amazing we all are at the Shelter.”

“With the award comes £1500 and I have decided to put that towards new rabbit enclosures which we really need at the GSPCA.”

Tina Smith Beckies mum was at the event and said “I’m so proud of Beckie.”

“What an amazing evening.”

Gemma Gaudion GSPCA Animal Care Assistant said “What an amazing night and it was made very special with Beckie winning her award.”

Ali Le Huray said “It was fantastic to see Beckie with the award, she so deserves it for all she does.”

Steve continued “We are very proud of all of our team here at the GSPCA and recognise and thank them in many ways, but this week was a very special moment for us all to see such a superstar for the GSPCA be shone in such an amazing light.”

“You can see a video f the moment Beckie got her award on our Instagram and facebook pages if you would like to revisit the moment with us.”
