RBS International Volunteers Lend a Helping Hand at GSPCA Animal Shelter
The Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA) was delighted to welcome a group of seven volunteers from RBS International to the Animal Shelter in St Andrews last Thursday.
The team were greeted by GSPCA Supervisor Ali Le Huray and began their visit with a quick photo at the front of the shelter before rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck in across several animal care departments.
As the charity heads into spring, the shelter is incredibly busy, with an increase in baby wildlife admissions, alongside boarding pets and the day‑to‑day care of animals looking for new homes. The RBS International volunteers provided much‑needed support across a wide range of tasks, from exercising dogs to cleaning animal enclosures, all of which were hugely appreciated by the GSPCA team.
GSPCA Supervisor Ali Le Huray said:
“We are extremely grateful to the RBS International team for giving their time and energy to help us. They worked incredibly hard across a range of departments and made a real difference on a very busy day. Support like this means so much to our staff and, of course, to the animals we care for.”
GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne also thanked the group and highlighted the importance of corporate support:
“A huge thank you to RBS International for supporting the GSPCA through their corporate volunteering programme. Visits like this are invaluable, especially at such a busy time of year. We always welcome interest from other corporate and community groups who would like to get involved, whether through volunteering, sponsoring events, or supporting major projects such as our Biggest Build Appeal.”
He added:
“There are lots of ways for businesses and individuals to support the GSPCA, from volunteering at events like Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday on 3rd May, getting involved in GSPCA Cupcake Week towards the end of May, to sponsoring parts of our Big Build or future events. Every bit of support helps us continue our work for animals and the community.”

#GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal Update
The GSPCA Wildlife Hospital, part of the #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal, continues to progress impressively. The west wing roof trusses are now complete, giving a striking preview of the future facility, and the east wing roof trusses are scheduled to begin very soon.
With the project now at its halfway point, the GSPCA is encouraging supporters to join the appeal by:
- Donating to the Build Fund
- Sponsoring a room, kennel, aviary, or specialised unit
- Supporting sustainability upgrades, including planned solar panel installations
- Taking part in events or community fundraising
- Leaving a gift or message of support via giving.gg
Every contribution supports the future of wildlife rescue in Guernsey for generations to come.
