This year Guernsey has seen a grey squirrel jump out of the back of a van a Madeiran lizard found in a suitcase and Rosey the Common Wall Gecko.
Ast month a small reptile believed could be a tarentola mauritancia was found near Jefferies Garage.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We really do not know what we are going to have to help or arrive in Guernsey.”
“This year has been a real surprise from the grey squirrel, a Madeiran Lizard and last month we had another non indigenous animal brought in to us by a kind member of public.”
“An islander near Jefferies Garage found what we think could be a tarentola mauritancia often know as Common Wall Gecko.”
“This small lizard was accepted by one of our team Seb Goman and was placed in a quarantine area as they aren’t native to Guernsey but we believe there may be others.”
“If you have seen a small lizard like Rosey please do let us know as we’d love to hear from you as we have had reports there may be others living in Guernsey.”
"The only indigenous reptile on sppeaking to the States of Guernsey Invasive Species team is the slow worm and although reports of others have been mentioned over the years those not a slow worm ave somehow made their way to Guernsey."
Seb Goman Senior Animal Care and Welfare Assistant said “Every day at the GSPCA is different.”
“We never know what will come in next and last month the little lizard was brought to us which is now in a new home.”
Steve continued “We are delighted after her time in quarantine that Rosey is now in a loving new home.”
“We are always looking for loving homes for animals and we do have many cats, lots of rabbits, ferrets, and you will often see many home to homes on our social media so if wanting to give an animal a home please do complete an online adoption form or pop in and say hello.”
