The GSPCA is delighted to share the heartwarming news that Rupert, a tortoise who was mistakenly thought to be named “Mayside,” is soon to be reunited with his owner after surviving an extraordinary ordeal.
Rupert’s adventure began when he somehow found his way into a recycling bag and was transported to Mayside Recycling. Unbeknownst to staff, Rupert went through part of the recycling process before being discovered—miraculously unharmed.
Thanks to the quick actions of the Mayside Recycling team and the care provided by the GSPCA, Rupert was safely recovered and has been under close observation at the GSPCA shelter. After a thorough check-up and some well-deserved rest, Rupert is now ready to return home.
Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager, said:
“We’ve seen many unusual rescues over the years, but Rupert’s story is truly remarkable. It’s a miracle he came through the recycling process without injury. We’re thrilled to be sending him back to his loving owner.”
“If you have lost or found a pet we have an advice page online www.gspca.org.gg/services/lost-found-advice or please call 257261.”
“We are always looking for loving homes for animals and we do have many cats, lots of rabbits, ferrets, and you will often see many home to homes on our social media so if wanting to give an animal a home please do complete an online adoption form or pop in and say hello.”
“Having been to the vets to donate to Mayside care please go to https://giving.gg/donate/charity/2/Guernsey-Society-for-the-Prevention-of-Cruelty-to-Animals-(GSPCA) give us a call or again pop in or by post.”
To fill in an online adoption form to register interest in adopting a pet please go to https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=gspca&method=online_form_html&formid=23
The GSPCA would like to remind all pet owners to ensure their animals are kept safe and secure, especially those that may be more vulnerable to accidental misplacement.
Rupert’s story is a testament to the resilience of animals and the importance of community vigilance. The GSPCA extends its thanks to Mayside Recycling and everyone involved in helping Rupert find his way home.
