GSPCA Opening Times over the Festive Period

Submitted by GSPCA on 20:23, 28th Dec, 2011 | 0

With the run up to Christmas we slow our rehoming as the GSPCA doesn’t believe in pets as presents.  We have already had a number of calls from people asking if we have any puppies or kittens that can be adopted over Christmas and we would like to remind everyone that an animal is for life and is not a gift item that is thought of as a surprise gift.

Also our opening times alter due to the public holidays.

Submitted by GSPCA on 12:21, 28th Dec, 2011 | 0

On Christmas Day 9 brave souls went to the Havelet bathing pools to take part in the Christmas Day swim with apparently over 200 others.

Those that did the swim were made up of staff and volunteers which were jumping in to raise funds for the Animal Shelter.  Thank you to Steve Byrne, Lorna Prince, John Prince, Joanne Fox, Geoff George, Tony Gallie, Annabelle Janes, Lauren Ellis, and Martin Smith for doing the jump.  Also thank you to all that supported them by the cheers and the sponsorship.

Santa comes to ensure the GSPCA animals have a lovely Christmas Day

Submitted by GSPCA on 19:54, 27th Dec, 2011 | 0

Christmas Day Santa popped along to the Animal Shelter to ensure all of the animals had something for Christmas.

The staff working Christmas Day also made sure all the animals had a lovely day with presents and special dinners.

The staff handed out toys, chews and much more to ensure it was a special day for the fur and feathered animals in the care of the GSPCA.

The presents came from donations from kind members of public as well as those that bought the £5 gift certificates that the GSPCA sold to enable us to give the animals a toy and nice meal.

Late Night Shopping Thank You

Submitted by GSPCA on 17:03, 23rd Dec, 2011 | 0

The last 3 weeks staff and volunteers have braved the weather to sell GSPCA and pet goods in town and Oatlands during the late night shopping evenings.

Even in pouring rain they stood there from 6-9pm raising funds for the Animal Shelter.  A big thank you must go to them and Bernard who helped raise nearly £1500 all of which will go towards helping animals in Guernsey.

Bernard our mascot gave out hugs and lollys whilst those helping sold everything from GSPCA mugs to cat toys, rabbit stockings to GSPCA teddies, reindeer antlers and flashing noses to chocolate bars.

Christmas Gifts Should Have Meaning & Not Real Feelings

Submitted by GSPCA on 01:40, 22nd Dec, 2011 | 0

Every year the GSPCA have to deal with animals after the Christmas period that become discarded or unwanted after being given as gifts on Christmas Day.

With only a few days until Christmas the GSPCA are asking people not to rush out and get a pet for a Christmas present even if its on Santas list.  Instead we ask that the family or household think seriously and if you are looking to bring a new pet into the home then leave it until after the festive period when households return to normal and it is less stressful for a new pet in a new home.

Late Night Shopping and the GSPCA join in on the fun

Submitted by GSPCA on 01:13, 22nd Dec, 2011 | 0

This evening we had a stall at Oatlands Late Night Shopping selling all sorts of GSPCA goods as well as a lovely selection of Reindeer Antlers and Noses.

We would like to thank all that popped by and supported us, as well as the management at Oatlands for inviting us and of course the staff that volunteered and helped out.

All the money raised will go towards the welfare work that the GSPCA does and if you missed us then we will be outside Instep in St Peter Port tomorrow night with lots more goods including a wide selection of pet stocking fillers.

Today is our Christmas Fayre 11am – 330pm.

We would like to thank everyone for their kind donations of bric-a-brac, raffle prizes, items for the tombola and cakes so far but please pop any more in today if you get a chance.

Today we will have lots of goodies on sale for both you and your pet and no matter the weather the day will go ahead.

Santa will be there as well as a Bernard our doggie mascot who got very wet last night in town giving out lolly pops.

If the weather is kind you may well get to see one of Santas friendly donkeys.
