St Mary St Michael school visit to the GSPCA

On Wednesday the GSPCA welcomed students from St Mary St Michael for a school visit.

Sarah Creasey the Welfare and Education Officer met the students at the front the GSPCA Animal Shelter before showing the children the facilities in St Andrews.

The GSPCA have been based at our current site since 1929 and the children learnt about the animals in our care and the work that is carried out 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

St Martins Reception School Visit - Educating about animal care in Guernsey

Last week (Tuesday 25th) Sarah Creasey the GSPCA Education and Welfare Officer visited St Martins reception with Brodie, the Golden Retriever, and talked to them about what we do at the Shelter, how too look after your pets and the best way to meet a dog.

Education is a major part of the GSPCA’s work and something that we feel is vitally important to the future of animal welfare.

Vauvert Reception get a look behind the scenes at the GSPCA

Yesterday the Vauvert Reception class got an opportunity to see behind the scenes at the GSPCA Animal Shelter.

Sarah Creasey the Animal Welfare and Education Officer showed the group around the facilities and talked to them about the work we do.

From hedgehogs to guillemots, rabbits to cats the children learnt how the Shelter helps care for thousands of animals every year.

The GSPCA feels that education in animal care is extremely important and the children certainly enjoyed their time at the Shelter.

St Sampsons and Castel Primary Schools enjoy a look around at the GSPCA Animal Shelter & learn about animal care

24 Pupils from St Sampsons who have been learning about Peter Rabbit and 47 from Castel who have been learning about how to run their own Animal Shelter recently visited the GSPCA to find out about the work of the Shelter.

All three classes that visited were shown around the many departments by GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who explained what the GSPCA did every day and tied in the talk with the subjects that the pupils were currently learning.

On Saturday the 20th July 2013 Roy Cochrane Presents "Guernsey Changes".

A Colour Slide and Chat Show at Les Cotils

Tickets are £6.50 each and include afternoon tea.

There is a raffle on the day and proceeds from the day will be donated to the GSPCA.

The talk starts at 2.30pm and those going are asked to arrive at 2pm.

WEA and the GSPCA team up for the first time to run a course called 'An Introduction to Animal Care and Welfare'

GSPCA Education talks brought into the 21st century thanks to Guernsey Post

The GSPCA carry out dozens of educational talks every month.  Unfortunately we have had limited equipment, but we are pleased to announce that we have recently received a very kind donation that has helped us to purchase resources that brings the GSPCA talks into the 21st century.

Blanchelande College Children get to meet Bernard and a tour of the GSPCA Animal Shelter

On this sunny day the GSPCA Animal Shelter was visited by a junior class from Blanchelande College with over 20 of their students.Ferrets meet Blanchelande College School childrem at the GSPCA Animal Shelter in Guernsey

The group with 4 teachers were shown around the Shelter by Welfare and Education Officer Emma Trousdale.  The children got to view the cats and hedgehogs, ferrets and baby birds, dogs being exercised and rabbits being brushed.

The GSPCA are looking for some volunteers who might be interested in helping with our Educational visits and talks throughout the Island.

We are looking for good communicators who are comfortable with public speaking and able to work with a diverse cross section of the community including children.

You must have a love for animals and animal welfare and be keen to promote the GSPCA.

Herm Primary School Visit the GSPCA after raising funds during Cupcake Week

Last week the children of Herm Primary School visited the GSPCA Animal Shelter after having joined in the GSPCA Cupcake fundraising week, raising a fantastic £40. 

During Cupcake Week the children were all encouraged to bring in cupcakes to sell and they also spent the morning decorating some which had been brought in by Herm school teacher Mrs Mary Carey.   The children handed over the money they raised to Emma Trousdale the GSPCA Education and Welfare Officer when they visited the Shelter last week.
