The GSPCA are urging bird owners to protect their pets.
With growing numbers of cases of H5N8 avian influenza throughout the UK their Animal & Plant Department Agency have been sending out weekly notifications of new cases in both wild and domestic birds with the most recent case today in Stroud, Gloucestershire.
Recently the States of Guernsey States Vets published this information on their facebook page -
11 year old Astrid Meadow has released her song ‘You’re A Ray of Sunshine’ online to raise funds for the GSPCA and Guernsey Animal Aid.
Astrid absolutely loves animals and the proceeds raised from those downloading her song will be donated to help animals in Guernsey.
Here are the three platforms where you can download this fantastic song.
Today the GSPCA have had two calls to help injured birds of prey.
One a Peregrine Falcon in St Martins and the other a Kestrel at the Fairy Ring.
The Kestrel has been named Oberon and has an injured wing.
He was rescued earlier today by GSPCA team member Neil Hughes who attended in the GSPCA Ambulance.
Oberon has been checked over and is under treatment in our Wildlife Unit.
The Peregrine was called in this morning and GSPCA team member Kevin Beausire headed there in the GSPCA Ambulance with the caller informing us the bird was caught in netting.
A huge thanks from all at the GSPCA to those that supported the GSPCA Quiz Night at the Cock and Bull which took place last week.
Originally planned for March earlier this year it sadly had to be postponed due to lock down and Covid-19.
Thankfully due to our safe Bailiwick bubble and #GuernseyTogether spirit organisors and GSPCA team members Beckie Bailey and Nicolle Morgan were able to reschedule and run what was a fabulous evening.
With dozens of raffle prizes and dozens of participants the pub was full with supporters raising funds for the many animals in our care.
Last week British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) Jersey rescued a poorly seal pup spotted on Les Écréhous.
Joey at a very thin 18kgs was cared for over night at New Era Vets before being transported to Guernsey.

Geoff George Head of Marine Mammals at the GSPCA said “Joey was extremely thin when he arrived but remains very feisty which is a good sign.”
Due to work happening on Rue des Truchots from today until Friday access to the GSPCA is via Rohais de Haut or Route des Fauconnaires.
We ask all visitors to please take care as the lanes to the GSPCA are often used by dog walkers and horse riders.
We are apologise for any inconvenience and will update if access returns to normal sooner than expected.
The GSPCA are pleased to announce 2021 ADCH Calendars are now on sale as well as ‘Who Rescued Who?’ paw shaped fridge magnets.
These wonderful calendars are featuring a very special cat at the GSPCA called Pongo who is diabetic and needing a very special home.
Other months feature other wonderful animals from the members of the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes and the 150+ members.
By buying this calendar you will not only be supporting the work of the GSPCA but also of many animal charities throughout The UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Ireland.
Every year at this time we remember the lost and fallen that have gone before us.
Today at the GSPCA the team will be respecting 2 minutes of silence as will many on this very special day.
On sale at the GSPCA we still have a small number of Purple Poppies - http://www.gspca.org.gg/blog/%E2%80%98purple-poppy-campaign%E2%80%99-wear-yours-against-your-red-poppy-remember-animal-victims-warfare-0
