The Sure Customer Service Awards will take place on Thursday 7th July at 5.30pm in Market Square, St Peter Port. Hosted by Island FM’s James Bentley, all category winners will be announced at this event and everyone is welcome to attend.
There are TWO types of awards: one is for the public to nominate individuals and teams, and the other is for companies to submit their own entry on behalf of their business.
In 2014 one of the team at the GSPCA 'Helen Holmes' was lucky enough to receive one of these wonderful awards.
On the 8th May three young hoglets were found abandoned by their mum in the Vale area.
At only a couple of weeks of age and barely able to walk or see the baby hedgehogs were rescued by one of our Volunteer Wardens and brought into the GSPCA.
When they arrived the GSPCA team worked quickly to warm them up and feed them.
For the last two weeks the team have been looking after them around the clock bottle feeding and caring for them in an intensive care unit.
Each day they grow stronger and we will hopefully soon have them feeding on solids.
For the next stage of improving the grounds at the Shelter with the help of St Andrews Floral Group we are concentrating on our wildlife pond which has sadly been dropping each year in level due to a number of issues with its natural lining to hold the water which comes from a natural spring under the GSPCA.
We are continually fund raising to improve this beautiful natural feature on site which benefits much of the wildlife that lives on and around site from birds and ducks to frogs and insects and recently we have received a number of donations to enable us to start this work.
On the 11th May a very different delivery was made by the post man.
A stray tortoise was fond on L'Ancresse by a Guernsey Post staff member and brought into the GSPCA.
'Skimmer' as staff and volunteers have named the male, adult tortoise was found on La Garenne.
As with many tortoise Skimmer is quite distinctive.
Each year we help around 30 stray tortoise which are handed into the GSPCA and we find the owners for nearly every one.
Thankfully he is safe and warm at the GSPCA, but we are appealing for the owner to come forward.
On the 12th May a stray bunny was rescued near Delancy Park and brought into the GSPCA.
He is an albino, male, dwarf, friendly, adult rabbit.
The team have called the bunny who is very sweet 'Sebastian'.
We are appealing for the owner of the rabbit to please get in touch with the GSPCA on 01481 257261 or email [email protected]
On Saturday Maddie Noyon and a group of her friends came along to the GSPCA for a Birthday guided tour.
Maddie who has just turned 7 years of age got a very special behind the scenes tour with her friends at the Shelter in St Andrews.
On requests we will arrange a special tour for a minimum donation and on Saturday Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager took the group around the site.
From seeing our resident tortoise to stroking Monkey a diabetic cat the girls all had a lovely evening.
The GSPCA would like to say a big thank you to Burns Pet Foods.
Burns Pet Food uses the minimum of ingredients to produce maximum benefits for dogs, cats or rabbits. Developed by veterinary surgeon John Burns in 1993, it’s just simple, nutritious, easy to digest food for all life stages. It makes pets happy and healthy inside and out and is hypo-allergenic to suit the most sensitive stomachs.
Just before Christmas Burns Pet Foods donated a pallet full of their wonderful food which over the last few months we have used to feed the many dogs in our care.
Next week marks Volunteers Week a time when many organisations and groups highlight the opportunities and thank their volunteers for their amazing support and time across Guernsey and the UK.
The GSPCA couldn't achieve all of the work that is carried our 24/7 without the 600+ volunteers that help at the Shelter and with all of our work across Guernsey.
Next Wednesday during Volunteers Week we will be holding our sixth volunteer induction of 2016.
We are blessed with many volunteers helping the GSPCA every year and on average over 100 every single week.
A week Monday during the half term why not pop to the GSPCA for a guided tour to see the hundreds of animals in our care.
Every Spring we help hundreds of baby birds, hedgehogs and many more wild animals and birds.
We are arranging the guided tours on a series of dates at 2pm.
We ask for a minimum donation of £5 per person and £3 per child, or £15 for a family of four. Later in the year we have some themed tours which are £15 per child.
We would like to thank all those that have already helped donate and shop at our Charity Shop on site at the GSPCA.
Over the last few months we have been using a section of the new build as a pop up shop where you can buy all sorts of goods from clothes to furniture.
We have found that the furniture side has become very popular and we are currently appealing for anyone wanting to give away furniture that is in good condition whether household or garden to please get in touch.
We also continue to appeal for clothes, bric-a-brac and other items to sell.
