After sell out days at the GSPCA last year for our GSPCA Easter Egg, Bunny and Treasure Hunts we have dates planned for this month.

Children meet the Easter bunny and GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne before having a tour of many of the animals, but especially the bunny rabbits.

As the groups are shown around they have a treasure hunt to complete whilst learning all about rabbits.

After the tour the group arrive at the events room where after finding out the answers and receiving prizes they are issued with buckets for an Easter Egg Hunt.

UPDATE - Bonnie the seal pup checks her room upgrade at the GSPCA

Submitted by Steve on 23:53, 16th Mar, 2016 | 0

Bonnie the grey seal pup at the GSPCA continues to make good progress and today she received a room upgrade at the GSPCA.

Having been slowly introduced to a small pool in the wildlife unit at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews she now has a choice of two.

Both pools have viewing through reflective glass to minimise her contact and even a feeding tube to help reduce her interaction with people.

Bonnie is still more than 15kg in weight away from being released but the team are pleased with her rehabilitation to date.

Slovakian puppy reunion - there can be a happy ever after - please help support banning the illegal puppy trade

Submitted by Steve on 22:50, 16th Mar, 2016 | 0

Last August 25 Slovakian puppies were stopped at Guernsey Customs in an awful state on route to the UK.

Then in September the two people transporting them were in Guernsey Magistrate Court for animal cruelty and fraud to hear their verdicts.

A 59-year-old man from the Slovak Republic was found guilty of animal cruelty and fraud and fined a total of £2,500.  He was told that the fine must be paid from custody or he would serve the alternative of 14 days in prison, which he quickly paid.

Inez who works opposite Collette Pattimore 3 morning on 3 days off has helped care for thousands of cats over the years and we will all be very sad to see her retire.

Dragon finds love ahead of the Wales England rugby match

Submitted by Steve on 10:51, 11th Mar, 2016 | 0

You may remember a stray Bearded Dragon found on Jerbourg point this winter here in Guernsey.

Sadly we were unable to find an owner so she went up for adoption after the 21 days needed as a stray under Guernsey law.

We often struggle to find the right kind of homes for the reptiles in our care but this week a wonderful home was found for Bernadette who we first called Oliver as we originally thought she was a boy.

Bernadette ahead of the Welsh dragons facing the England side in the Six Nations at Twickenham has not only found a fantastic home, she has also found love.

Nearly a week on and the team at the GSPCA with the guidance and expertise of local Vet John Knight continue to care for and do all we can for the very sick loggerhead turtle.

Olivia who was found on Vazon beach on the west coast at 4pm on Wednesday of last week has been having tests and checks to ensure that her ill health isn't just because of cold shock and being in an unsuitable climate.

Stow away crab hitches a lift on Olivia the turtle from where we do not know

Submitted by Steve on 23:32, 7th Mar, 2016 | 0

Last Wednesday when the team were called out to rescue Olivia the loggerhead turtle she wasn't the only one to be rescued off of the beach.

Shortly after her arrival at the GSPCA when the vet and team were checking her over a crab and some goose barnacles seem to have hitched a lift.

The goose barnacles were found attached mostly to the rear and the small clawed hitch hiker was found between Olivia's back right leg and her shell.

The crab didn't want to come out straight away but the next morning was found trying to enter the pen area of Bonnie the seal.

UPDATE - Olivia the Loggerhead Turtle - Monday 7th March

Submitted by Steve on 23:02, 7th Mar, 2016 | 0

Olivia the loggerhead turtle continues her rehabilitation at the GSPCA in St Andrews.

Rescued last Wednesday she had a further check with Vet John Knight today.

Still very weak after her ordeal the team at the GSPCA continue to slowly raise her body temperature and treat her under the advice of the vet.

Not only did Olivia get to see the vet today she also got the chance of a little dip in a small pool with warmed water which she appeared to appreciate.
