The GSPCA are holding their first ever Spooky Halloween Sponsored Fancy Dress Dog Walk at Saumarez Park.
It will take place on Sunday 1st November 2015 meeting at the Saumarez Park Tea Rooms, Saumarez Park.
The Spooky Halloween Fancy Dress Sponsored Dog Walk in aid of the GSPCA is asking all witches, ghosts, monsters and ghouls to arrive from 5pm for a 5.30pm stroll around the park in the dark.
All money raised will help animal like the two young kittens recently rescued to the 25 Slovakian puppies.
As the Slovakian puppies grow and the team at the GSPCA expose the puppies to new experiences their vaccinations for some will soon be completed.
We are hopeful once this is the case we will be able to take them out and about but we are currently appealing for leads and collars which you can view or purchase on our Amazon Wish List .
Our next Volunteer Induction Evening at the GSPCA is on Wednesday 14th October at 6.30pm.
All ages are welcome, but to help on site with the animals you have to be 14 years old or over.
Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal care Assistant said "We have a wonderful team of volunteers that help us at the GSPCA and we always love to welcome those wanting to help."
"From gardening to answering the phone there is a job to help in many different ways on and off the Animal Shelter."
Millard & Co Ltd have teamed up with the Greenman Motorcycle Club to offer a special Raffle prize of a signed Shane "Shakey" Byrne helmet.
Petplan and the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH) Charity Awards celebrate outstanding animal charities and not-for-profit organisations across the UK who go that extra mile to help rescue and rehome animals in need.
Petplan has worked closely with animal rehoming centres for over 30 years and sees first-hand the fantastic work that goes on to help improve the welfare of animals. These awards provide an opportunity to recognise the dedication and commitment of charities and give pet owners a chance to say 'thank you'.
What are the award categories?
On Thursday last week the GSPCA ambulance was called out to two very young kittens in desperate need.
The call came from Les Fauconnaires where two young kittens at only 4-5 weeks were found covered in fleas and fly strike with no mother in site.
The area was searched for any signs of other kittens and the two rescued were transported to the vets as they were cold and in need of veterinary care.
This year the GSPCA attended every Seafront Sunday with a stall.
To run the GSPCA and care for the 1000's of animals we help every year costs £2000 a day and we are always looking for ways to raise the much needed funds to care and rescue those in need.
Last Sunday was the last of the 8 Seafront Sundays and we would like to thank the organisors of the other 7 for allowing us to bring a stall to raise the funds and talk to the community and visitors about our work, how they can help and the animals in need of homes.
Every 6 months we hold cat and dog first aid sessions which prove extremely popular and help owners understand the basics of first aid to help their pets if they get into bother.
The next sessions are coming soon and here they are -
Cat First Aid 9.30am - 11.45am Sunday 8th November 2015 - Ref - Cat 8/11
Dog First Aid 9.30am - 11.45am Sunday 15th November 2015 - Ref - Dog 15/11
All courses are a minimum £15 donation and you must book your place by the Saturday before the training session.
Last night we welcomed enough new faces to the GSPCA to set up a rugby team with reserves.
With 20 attending and 12 all signed up with a date to start volunteering at the GSPCA and others to be confirmed we have already started the first three this morning.
The new volunteers during their induction learnt about the work of the Shelter and how to become involved with our 24 hour 7 day a week work.
This morning Phil, Jane and Lili have already experienced cleaning out and caring for the many animals at the Shelter with many others starting over the next few days.
We are proud to have been featured in a recent article on Made In Guernsey!
Made in Guernsey is the island’s premier online lifestyle and property publication, produced by the team at Guernsey estate agents Livingroom. It showcases what makes our precious island so wonderful, and we are delighted to now be a part of it.
Our Manager Steve Byrne discussed with them the origins of the GSPCA, its hopes for the future, and why Guernsey’s community spirit and giving culture makes it such a fantastic place for a charity to operate.
