This week many will mark the 5th November with firework parties.
Last year the GSPCA launched a calendar and asks those having public and private displays to let us know so we can have a central location for those around Guernsey know where and when these events take place. The calendar is linked to the GSPCA Twitter and Facebook pages so that reminders are sent out earlier in the day during these events.
We are afraid to report that the event planned this Thursday has been cancelled at Le Friquet GardenCentre.
We have many other events upcoming and will be at many Christmans fetes and fayres.
If you would like us to attend your event please do let us know.
Please email the details to [email protected]
Yesterday the GSPCA held first ever Spooky Halloween Sponsored Fancy Dress Dog Walk at Saumarez Park.
The Spooky owners and dogs started arriving around 5pm and were greeted with a few gifts for the owners and some lovely treats for the pooches.
The walk started and finished at the Saumarez Park Tea Rooms and the group set off just after 5.30pm. After what was a glorious day the sun quickly disappeared as the witches, ghouls, pumpkins and even a hot day set off around the park.
Last week during half term we ran a series of guided tours that proved so popular additional tours had to be added.
Every tour was a sell out and on Thursday and Friday due to demand we doubled up with over 40 attending each day.
The groups got to see Slovakian puppies to kittens, chicks to hoglets, tortoise to bunnies and much more.
During the school breaks we run a series of guided tours at the GSPCA and we have now planned for 2016 with some special tours for the children.
The GSPCA would like to thank ACTIVE (formerly M.E.N.F.U.N) and all that supported the sunny car boot sale at the Alliance car park yesterday.
With the sun shining dozens of cars turned out and hundreds of shoppers attended looking for a bargain.
The GSPCA raised a wonderful £270 through the stall and shared proceeds from the car boot stalls.
On Friday 23rd October a team of staff from Credit Suisse gave up a day in the office to help out at the GSPCA.
We were pleased to welcome back Credit Suisse staff to help at the Shelter. Both last and this year many of their team have spent a day helping out at the GSPCA and we are extremely grateful for all of their help and support.
Black cats have had a mixed reaction for centuries with many people believing them a bad omen even in 2015.
Today is National Black Cat Day, a day to raise awareness of the many black and white cats waiting for homes in rehoming centres.
At the GSPCA it takes on average much longer for a black cat to find a home
This Halloween there are black cats in many homes in Guernsey, but the GSPCA have more black cats than any other at the Animal Shelter.
At the GSPCA 50% of the cats are black or black and white that are in for rehoming, welfare reasons or stray.
It is with a very sad heart the GSPCA bring this message of the loss of one of our team.
One of the senior and longest standing members of staff at the GSPCA 'Richard Chandler' passed away recently and has left the team at the Shelter deeply saddened.
Richard was a wonderful man, who passionately cared for the Shelter and the team at the GSPCA and he will be sorely missed by all.
Today we would like to extend a huge thank you to Liz Kerr who popped in to take professional group pictures of 24 of the 25 Slovakian puppies with the team and volunteers at the GSPCA.
One pup was out on foster, but the other 24 joined GSPCA staff and volunteers for their first family picture in a group.
The puppies which have been in the GSPCA care for over 7 weeks are very soon to be officially rehomed and the team have been working through the hundreds of inquiries and applications.
