Tomorrow we celebrate 142 years helping animals in Guernsey.
All week businesses, companies and events have been held to help raise funds for the Shelter in St Andrews and the work that goes on caring for the 200 - 300 animals there as well as the welfare and rescue work carried out 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
All week we have been celebrating GSPCA Purple Week which is a way we celebrate our anniversary each year.
Why not join us on Monday the 16th March for a Saint Patrick's Day themed bingo evening raising funds to help animals in Guernsey.
Each month the GSPCA organise a bingo evening at the Market Bistro to help raise much needed funds for the many animals in our care.
The last bingo evening had a GSPCA Alice in Wonderland Birthday Purple Week theme to celebrate the 142nd anniversary of the GSPCA.
Today we released Frank the guillemot back to the wild.
Frank was found near the Fairy Rink in Pleinmont covered in oil on January 15th.
After a period in an intensive care unit, a number of bathes to remove the oil and ten days on our recovery pool he had an identification ring fitted and passed as fit to release.
Just after midday he was caught, boxed and transported just below Castle Cornet slipway.
GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne drove Frank to be released and on what was a calm sea let him out.
Last night we held our second bingo night of 2015 at the Market Bistro and we would like to thank all that supported and attended.
With the theme of GSPCA Alice in Wonderland Birthday Purple Week many of those attended sported Mad Hatter hats to purple hair.
Easter Bunny & Egg Hunt at the GSPCA 11am – 12.30pm Sunday 29th March to Thursday 2nd April 2015.
Book your childs place to join us searching and learning about bunnies around the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews with the Giant Easter GSPCA Bunny.
After a bunny treasure hunt around the GSPCA each child will take part in an indoor Easter Egg Hunt Games.
£10 per childs place (adults are asked to stay with their children)
Every child will receive a selection of prizes & eggs.
Petplan and the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH) have joined forces for the third year of these Animal Charity Awards.
The inspirational event celebrates outstanding animal charities and not-for-profit organisations across the UK who go that extra mile to help rescue and rehome animals in need. Petplan has worked closely with animal rehoming centres for over 30 years and sees first-hand the fantastic work that goes on every day to help improve the welfare of animals.
This week the GSPCA celebrate 142 years and are holding a number of events of GSPCA Purple Week.
As part of Purple Week we held our second volunteer induction evening of 2015 last night.
12 new volunteers arrived, some with family members and friends to find out about the work of the GSPCA.
Over 3 months since going missing we continue to search for Bertie the missing Schnauzer.
Up until the early hours of yesterday morning and despite using a number of wildlife cameras, sightings have been sketchy at best of Bertie until the report we received at 1.15am on Tuesday.
Just after midnight we had what sounds like a very positive report, and both the spotter and friends, as well as GSPCA wardens spent some time in the early hours looking for possible signs of the missing dog.
Normally found much further North it is unusual to see a Lesser Black Back Gull in Guernsey during the Winter.
On the 1st February a 1 year old female Lesser Black Back Gull was rescued near Route des Capelles unable to fly.
Once at the GSPCA she was cared for initially inside and then put in one of the rehabilitation flights.
The young bird was named 'Orchard' and a close eye kept on her during the first 24 hours to monitor the condition of her wings.
