At the GSPCA with 200 to 300 animals in our care which do produce rather a lot of waste and we are continually working to improve and maintain our facilities.
Currently we are replacing 5 of our very old buildings with our new multi purpose animal welfare building, but we continue to have to repair and maintain the site where the many animals are kept and the services to them.
On the weekend our sewage pump failed which serves the many buildings on site and we are currently appealing for funds to help us repair this essential service.
At 11pm last night the GSPCA were called out to rescue an injured cat near the Jamaica Inn.
The young adult, entire male ginger and white cat was collected and rushed to the vet having being involved with a road traffic incident.
Sadly no collar or microchip was found and he is now under intensive care at the vets.
We are appealing for an owner to come forward and if you have lost a cat in the Admiral Park area then please call us as soon as possible on 01481 257261.
Today was the third day at the GSPCA that we have welcomed dozens of children to take part in some Easter fun at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
Children meet the Easter bunny and GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne before having a tour of many of the animals, but especially the bunny rabbits.
As the groups are shown around they have a treasure hunt to complete whilst learning all about rabbits.
After the tour the group arrive at the events room where after finding out the answers and receiving prizes they are issued with buckets for an Easter Egg Hunt.
This month two local caring and hard working individuals were confirmed as part of becoming finalists in the 2015 Ceva Awards for Animal Welfare.
John Knight BVetMed, MRCVS who is Veterinary Surgeon from the Vetcare Centres and Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant at the GSPCA were recently nominated and short listed for these fantastic awards which recognise the amazing work in animal welfare in the UK and abroad.

Research reveals the need for better regulation to protect Europe’s dogs and cats. On the 24th March, the EU Dog & Cat Alliance launched a National Legislation Report which was commissioned to provide important information on the current legislation in all 28 of the EU’s Member States. The EU Dog & Cat Alliance, which is made up of 45 members from 14 member states, held their first meeting in Brussels yesterday to launch and discuss the research which provides much needed evidence as to why EU legislation on the breeding and trade of dogs and cats is needed. Today staff and volunteers have had to face one of the hardest times when rescueing and saving animals. Rubis the stray cat that arrived a month ago and who has had multiple health problems was rushed to the vets for a second time in a week. Sadly due to his health issues and rapidly deteriating condition we were unable to help him, and after exploring all options one of the hardest decisions that can be made in animal rescue with the vet meant that this adorable cat had to be put to sleep.
