Yesterday the GSPCA received calls along the south coast of a Grey Seal Pup which was first we believe seen in L'Eree.
At 4pm we had a call from Jamie Hooper who's from conservation group La Société Guernesiaise which had the pup reported to him at Pezeres Point.
Jamie was concerned for the pup and contacted us here at the GSPCA where we launched the rescue.
Geoff George Animal Collection Officer and Sarah Creasey the Education and Welfare Officer attended the scene where they found a very thin 3 week old grey seal pup.
Owners of dogs in Guernsey are required to buy a licence from their parish authority for each dog they own.
Dog Tax is payable annually at a rate of £10.00 per dog and is renewable each January by 31st of the month.
Tax is due for all dogs over the age of 6 months - the only exceptions being dogs kept solely by a deaf or disabled person for their hearing or guidance (e.g. guide dogs for the blind or hearing dogs for the deaf).
Thank you to all that supported the GSPCA Christmas Pop Up Shop and Late Night Stall on the Pollet during the Thursday nights in the run up to Christmas.
Well over £2,000 was raised between the two and we must thank OSA Recruitment who are based in Smith Street for this wonderful opportunity once again.
Helen Holmes ran the shop and said 'We had all sorts of goodies on sale and even a giant Dulux Old English Sheep Dog on auction, but don't worry he was a cuddly toy.'
The GSPCA team and all the animals would like to wish one and all a Happy New Year.
Unfortunately the New Year and the bad weather over the last few days has certainly not helped many of our feathered friends.
New Years Day Ambulance Collection Officer spent much of the day rescuing injured birds around Guernsey.
These included a Gannet that is now named Balthazar. Balthazar was rescued by ACO Geoff George after being found exhausted and thin near Kings Mill.
Fluke and Barney are two dogs at the GSPCA who are not only needing new and loving homes but both require operations.
Fluke a Jack Russell needs an operation on his leg and Barney a Collie Cross needs a lump removed.
We are hoping to get both dogs in for their operations before Christmas and we are appealing for funds towards their care.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'Barney and Fluke are two lovely dogs and we are appealing to anyone that would like to help towards their operations.'
Below is a list of opening times for the GSPCA.
Please remember that in the case of an emergency, sick, injured or stray animal(s) please call 01481 257261 and choose the 24 hour emergency option.
The GSPCA officially stop rehoming on the 15th December until the 2nd January but some animals may be suitable during these periods. The GSPCA do not believe in pets as presents and each home is looked at individually, as is the pet.
