The GSPCA is warning dog owners of the possible presence of a waxy substance along our coast line which could well be Palm Oil.
We have been informed of a sighting at Pembroke earlier today.
The public is advised not to remove the palm oil but anyone who has picked any up should double wrap it in plastic and dispose of it with their normal refuse.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We have had a report of a white oily substance being seen at Pembroke and we are asking all dog owners to be vigilant.”
Aurore was rescued in Jersey on the 23rd October by British Divers Marine Life Rescue after the poorly pup was reported to the JSPCA who passed on the details to the specialist rescue team.
Last night the GSPCA held its first Dog First Aid Course in 2 years and next week is the Cat First aid Course.

At the GSPCA we help 1000’s of cats every year but the numbers looking for homes have been decreasing over the years.
This has meant from time to time we have space in our cat pens and when we are able we help charities which are members of the Association of Cats and Dogs Home (ADCH) which are based across the British Isles and Ireland.
On Friday 29th October 2021 the GSPCA helped 5 cats from the RSPCA in Wales which were in need.

“The GSPCA has been selected by Waitrose Admiral Park to be supported through our Give a Little Local Love scheme.”
“Following a vote from our Partners they would like you to purchase a Small Intensive Care Unit, a Bird cage for hand rears and the balance to be used to purchase feed for the Seal Pups and Hoglets.”

The GSPCA are urging bird owners to protect their pets and flocks.
With growing numbers of cases of H5N1 avian influenza throughout the UK their Animal & Plant Department Agency have been sending out notifications of new cases in both wild and domestic birds with the most recent case in Chirk, Wrexham.
Recently the States of Guernsey States Vets sent these details to poultry owners -
With a busy firework period fast approaching the GSPCA would like to remind everyone of the notifications to help those affected by the loud bangs and safety information for pet owners.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “With many firework displays confirmed already for the coming days we are reminding all pet and animal owners to do what they can to ensure they are safe, well and cared for.”
“The loud bangs and bright lights can often scare animals and we often see an increase in escaped animals during these periods.”
Every year many children with parents or guardians head out at Halloween on the 31st October dressed up to celebrate the American tradition of 'Trick or Treat'.
With the growing concern of the consumption of sweets and sugar why not this Halloween raise funds for charity.
With the dark evenings it is important to ensure you follow some simple safety hints and tips, but this year could your Halloween night out help benefit the hundreds of animals in need in Guernsey.
