As Guernsey has gone through 7 weeks of our second lockdown many incoming donations have been affected, not just financially.
At the GSPCA we are currently appealing for long shredded paper for the hedgehog bedding and with over 140 in our care we have a lot to look after.
Normally with offices working and many in the work place we would have a great supply but with most people working from home we have not had our normal supplies and we are in need of long (not cross) shredded paper.
Just before Christmas we rehomed a lovely tortie female cat called Mittens who is now called Coco and is very much enjoying her new home.
Coco recently sent this lovely message -
‘Hello all of you at the GSPCA
I am sending this message to you all to let you know how I am getting on in my new home. I was adopted just two weeks ago.
Yesterday during World Wildlife Day the GSPCA set free two seabirds that arrived into our care last month oiled, weak, injured and thin.
Violet-Elizabeth a guillemot was rescued at Pembroke on the 7th February and Gary the razorbill was rescued from L’Eree on the 18th February.

Each year the GSPCA helps in excess of 2000 wild animals and birds through our doors at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
Last year we saw a record breaking number of hedgehogs with over 700 through our doors and we currently have over 140 in our care and with Spring fast approaching we will soon see hoglets being born.
We are already helping fledglings and baby birds like Dave the duckling who is doing well.
Lorna Chadwick GSPCA Animal Welfare Manager shares this important information on rabbit care ‘Spring is in the air, so please make sure you allow your bunnies to enjoy this beautiful weather too. We all know how stressful it feels to be locked inside so let's make sure our rabbits always have the space they need to exercise and explore; keeping them mentally and physically fit and well.
The GSPCA is asking islanders to help celebrate its 148th birthday by tagging the charity in photos of their pets in their best virtual party outfits on social media using #GSPCAPartyAnimal.
Manager of the GSPCA, Steve Byrne said, “Like many others who had birthdays during lockdown, we didn’t get the party or celebrations we were wishing for. So, to embrace the Guernsey Together spirit and lockdown restrictions, we’re moving our celebrations online and asking local pets and their owners to get involved virtually.”
Last week the GSPCA celebrated 148 years and from those making donations to selling goods for us there we so many wonderful ways we were supported through this fun annual event.
We also saw a bumper week in donations from our Amazon Wish List, which you can see by going to - https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/25MJPPDAGXHL1?type=WishList
Dog owners around the Bailiwick each day enjoy our stunning islands while walking their dogs and today is #WalkingYourDogDay
We would normally have an average 30-40 dogs in our care at the GSPCA but as people are unable to travel due to Covid we only see a small number of boarding dogs and thankfully very few needing to be rehomed.
This has hit our income greatly as our boarding helps raise half of the running costs of the GSPCA so we are asking if you could do a sponsored event to raise funds for our 24/7 work.
Each year the GSPCA helps in excess of 2000 wild animals and birds.
Last year we saw a record breaking number of hedgehogs with over 700 through our doors and we currently have over 140 in our care.
All three seal pups continue to do well with Joey as you can see from the little white coat pup is eating extremely well on his own in our pools with Ellie and Titan who also progress well.
Sadly we continue to see very sick pigeons as the Pigeon Paramyxovirus spreads across the Island and we have had birds and reports from most Guernsey Parishes.
