Every year we hear of firework related incidents involving animals and children. While fireworks may be exciting and pretty to look at and its fun to celebrate many celebrations with a bang, we must put our safety, the safety of our pets and the local wildlife first.
Tomorrow as part of Liberation Day at 2130hrs (930pm) at Castle Breakwater in St peter Port there is a firework display planned so please ensure your animals are safe and prepare for the unusual sounds and sights they might be subjected too.
On the 16th April Herm Island ran a special dog walk in aid of the GSPCA.
Although the weather was a little wet dogs and their owners made their way to the stunning island of Herm to help raise funds for the many animals at the GSPCA.
Treats for all with were enjoyed for the two and four legged visitors and a fantastic £30 was raised on the day with further donations being raised as treats are on sale at the kiosk on Shell Beach in aid of the GSPCA.
This evening a member of public while out for a walk along the Nature Trail near Cobo came across a wild animal more likely to be seen living in the desserts of Australia.
On a lovely Spring evening just after 8pm a bearded dragon has been found.
Now at the GSPCA although a little thin the reptile has been named ‘Debbie’ and is safe, warm with some fresh food and water in a vivarium.
The GSPCA are appealing to anyone that has lost their bearded dragon to please call the Shelter on 257261 or to pop in to the GSPCA in St Andrews.
Money raised by walkers who participate in the 2018 Saffery Rotary Walk will be making a difference to 20 local charities and the GSPCA are hugely grateful to be one of the recipients.
The walk’s organising committee, made up of representatives from the Rotary Club and sponsor Saffery Champness, had the difficult task of selecting which applications would benefit from the overall funds raised.
After receiving a record 59 applications, the committee chose 20 local community projects to receive funds from the 2018 Saffery Rotary Walk, which takes place on Saturday 9 June.
Aurigny is delighted to announce the GSPCA and Male Uprising Guernsey (MUG) as its Chosen Charities for 2018 - the year the airline marks its 50th Anniversary.
Staff at Aurigny have selected the two local charities as airline’s official charities for its 50th year, in a company-wide vote. As well as raising money throughout the year, airline staff will be volunteering with both charities.
GSPCA manager Steve Byrne thanked Aurigny for its continued support, having successfully worked with the airline previously.
A huge thanks from GSPCA to Pets at Home & Support Adoption for Pets & those that supported the Santa Paws Appeal
Last week GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne and the team had a lovely visit from Rory Thorington Store Manager and Nicole Prevel Store Colleague from Guernsey Pets at Home.
The visit was to have a tour of the Shelter and to see the many animals in our care and the work that is carried out 24/7 helping over 3000 animals every year.
As well as a visit Rory and Nicole had a wonderful gift for the many animals at the GSPCA.

The induction will take place with GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who will greet the new volunteers and then show a video about who we are, what we do, the ways volunteers can help and an induction of how to help safely to all the new volunteers who need to be aged from 13 years upwards to help with the animals on site.
The GSPCA are currently looking for additional staff members to help with our increasingly busy front desk, the animals, guided tours, cleaning and to continue to develop our charity shop area.
The closing date for these posts is Thursday 19th April 2018.
The roles are casual positions to help cover 7 days a week and especially on weekends and bank holidays when the GSPCA is often extremely busy.
During the school breaks we run a series of guided tours at the GSPCA and we have now planned for 2018 with the next happening over the Easter break
You can also book a tour for a special event or birthday. For details on special tours please see below.
This is your opportunity to visit behind the scenes at our Animal Shelter in St Andrews and see the work being carried out.
