List of events at the Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday this weekend - please help us spread the word

With only a few days to go to the Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday and the last of the Seafront Sundays for 2013 here is a list of just some of the events and times -

8am Seafront Road closes for setting up of the Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday

9.45am Stall holders to have their  vehicles off of the Seafront unless permission has been pre arranged

10.00am  Military parade along the Seafront to the Town Church

Animal Less Animal Show (photo show of your animals) at the Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday on the 15th September

Not got a dog or can't bring it down on the 15th September or you have other pets at home then this is your chance to take part in a show without the need to bring them along.

We are asking pet owners to take pictures of their pets and for 50p per entry per class you can enter your cat, rabbit, horse, donkey, stick insect, tortoise, whatever it may be into a virtual pet show..

Thank you to KPMG staff for helping at the GSPCA

On the 14th and 15th August the GSPCA were lucky enough to have help from KPMG staff.

In two groups the staff helped on site at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews and with the Stall at the West Show.

From cleaning out the Animals to dressing up as Giant Animals at the West Show the team from KPMG helped with all matters of tasks.

13 stray Tortoise so far in 2013 - Currently we have 2 still at the Shelter in search of their owners

This year we have seen 13 stray tortoise and currently we have 2 at the Shelter.

All 11 that came in earlier in the year are back with their owners but Ridley as he's been named above by Shelter staff and Fabian below both came in last week.

Ridley was found in the Camp du Roi area and Fabian was found at L'Ancresse.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'This year we have seen more stray Tortoise than ever before.'

'If anyone has lost any pet we always urge them to report it at the Shelter as we see anywhere between 50 and sometimes over 100 stray animals every month.'

Tomorrow which is Saturday the 31st August the GSPCA will be collecting at our last two locations for the last part of our annual Flag Day.

Many of the spots at the two Marks and Spencer stores are filled but we welcome anyone that can and would like to help.

The two locations are -

  • Marks and Spencers - L'Ilset
  • Marks and Spencers - St Martins

We are now up to 19 Giant Animal Mascots for the Giant Animal Mascot Race for the Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday.

Have you chosen yours?

With another 40 suits to fill the film strip pictured are those still yet to get an owner for the races that are due to start at 1pm on the day.

Whether your a business with a keen staff member or just chatting to your friends down the pub its a great race, raising funds to help animals in Guernsey.

Stray Snake found and rescued at First Tower Lane this morning

This morning the GSPCA had a call about a stray Snake in the St Peter Port area.

Animal Collection Officer Geoff George before he started his shift had a call to help with a rescue of a Snake.

Geoff made his way to First Tower Lane where he found the Albino Corn Snake.

He quickly secured it and it is now back at the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews, Guernsey.

Geoff George said 'The Albino Corn Snake I rescued this morning seems very well and is fine to handle.'

Tomorrow which is Saturday the 24th August the GSPCA will be collecting around Guernsey for our annual Flag Day.

We have filled many of the locations but this is our last appeal for volunteers to help with the collecting. 

Sarah Ozanne Organisor of this years Flag Day said 'We've had more volunteers come forward this week and I now have the collection packs all ready which include buckets, sashes, newsletters and stickers.'

'We'd love a few more volunteers for Herm Kiosk but we have other locations still with a few spaces.'

Summer advice for your pets on another warm day

With another sunny and warm day the GSPCA want to ensure all pet owners take care of their animals.

Many of us love to enjoy the sunny warm weather but we are urging pet owners to be mindful of their animals.

Don't leave your dog alone in a car.
