From dog walkers to fund raisers, night wardens to receptionists, gardening to mucking out the GSPCA are grateful to each and every person that gives up their time to help the many animals in our care.

Another oiled bird at the GSPCA - What to do if you see any bird affected by oil

Submitted by GSPCA on 20:12, 16th May, 2013 | 0

Today the GSPCA received another oiled bird.  This time a Gull was rescued from Chouet and brought into the Animal Shelter.

Although it is not thought to be the PIB (polyisobutene) that has killed thousands of see birds along the south coast of England the GSPCA are on high alert in case of any outbreak.

You may remember only a number of weeks ago an oiled bird was found dead in Alderney due to PIB.  Here is some simple advice on what to do if you find sea life affected by this or any oiled substance -

After the recent news of a car apparently intentionally running over some ducklings this week we would like to remind everyone of the GSPCA cruelty complaint procedure.

With Spring comes many more animals out and about from hedgehogs coming out of hibernation to pet cats enjoying the warmth of the sunshine, ducks with their ducklings to dog walkers making the most of the nice weather.

How cute is this stray baby ferret that was found cold and very weak?

Submitted by GSPCA on 13:58, 16th May, 2013 | 0

Earlier this week late on Tuesday evening a very kind gentleman spotted this little fella at the side of the road in the St Saviours area.

Andrea as staff have named him at only just over a month isn't even old enough to be away from his mother and is needing bottle feeding by Shelter staff at the GSPCA.

Andrea arrived late in the evening and GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne accepted the young ferret who was very cold, weak and quiet.

A pen was quickly set up with additional heating and Andrea thankfully pulled through the first night well.

Submitted by GSPCA on 12:31, 14th May, 2013 | 0

On a daily basis GSPCA Shelter staff work with and learn new skills caring for the many animals that come through the Animal Shelter every day, but this week a very different kind of training has taken place.

The GSPCA receive many stray animals every week and with only 40 to 45% of dogs and cats being microchipped or have any identification this means there are many which are we are unable to quickly reunite with their owners.

Was your tortoise too quick for you?

Submitted by GSPCA on 13:20, 13th May, 2013 | 0

With over 9 stray tortoise handed in to the GSPCA last year and 20 reported lost this is the first of 2013 to be handed into the GSPCA Animal Shelter.

The GSPCA receive all sorts of animals, reptiles and birds as strays and this tortoise is just one of the more unusual that we see.

We are still looking for the owner of the Bearded Dragon that staff have called Sorrento that was found in Collings Road last week and this hard shelled reptile was found in the Torteval area and if you have lost your tortoise then please get in touch.
