Submitted by GSPCA on 11:33, 6th Aug, 2013 | 0

Today Shelter staff and volunteers had the pleasure of a local expert in Gulls give a talk on their movements, the tracking of them and their behaviour.

Paul Veron who has been ringing birds since 1976 and has rung over 53,000 himself since starting has a wealth of knowledge that he shared with the GSPCA team before they started their work.

Paul talked primarily about the movements and ringing work of the Herring Gull, Black Back Gull and Lesser Back Gull all of which breed around the Bailiwick.

We are now calling all volunteers that can help at our Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday on the 9th September to meet up for a briefing before the day.

GSPCA gets help from those needing to give back to the community - Thank you to Guernsey Probation Team

Submitted by GSPCA on 11:12, 12th Jul, 2012 | 0

The GSPCA is a very busy environment, with a site that is nearly 4 acres.

We are always extremely busy rescuing and caring for the many animals that come through the door which means it is often difficult to get many of the maintenance jobs around the site completed.

The Shelter has hundreds on metres of fencing which separates our paddocks around site as well as a stable that were falling in a state of disrepair but we were in luck…..

On Friday last week the GSPCA welcomed a team of 11 Specsaver staff who spent the day volunteering at the Shelter.

Suzanne, Sylvia, Gill, Sadie, Emma, Jason, Julie, Polly, Maurice, Melissa and Chris arrived at 9am sporting very nice clean Specsaver t-shirts, but it wasn’t long before they were well worn in.

The team had a quick welcome and induction, then were split into groups to help the animal care departments.
