Habitat loss and the threat of extinction are significant concerns in the world of reptilian life.

Reptile Day promotes awareness of all things reptilian, encouraging learning about different types of reptiles, their natural environments and ecological challenges.

At the GSPCA we rescue, reunite, rehabilitate and rehome reptiles of all descriptions and in recent years seen more reptiles come into our care than ever before.

From snakes to turtles, lizards to turtles we have a wide range in our care and in need of new homes.

For anyone looking to adopt an exotic pet it is extremely important to research and speak to experts to ensure you are aware of their care and have the correct environment.

At the GSPCA we help over 40 to 50 reptiles each year.  We have seen an increase in reptiles such as musk turtles and bearded dragons and have nearly 20 in need of homes currently.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "Reptiles can be magical creatures but if you aren't aware of their needs then it can be disastrous."

"Every year at the GSPCA we see all sorts of reptiles that have escaped from their cages or possibly even been abandoned and it is extremely important to know what you are taking on before you even consider getting one of these exotic pets."

"Certain lizards may appear small when you first get them but like snakes many can become extremely large and need much larger enclosures than you are first sold."

"At present we have corn snakes, many bearded dragons and musk turtles in need of homes and for anyone interested please op in between 11am and 4pm, call 257261 or see those in need online via .”
