World Animal Month and World Animal Day Shine a Spotlight on Supporting Animals in Guernsey
As World Animal Month is celebrated throughout October, and World Animal Day is marked on 4th October, the GSPCA is encouraging islanders to celebrate animals by helping support the thousands of animals the charity cares for and assists every year.
From injured wildlife and stray pets to animal welfare concerns and emergency rescues, the GSPCA provides a vital 24/7 service across Guernsey and the sister islands, helping thousands of animals annually through its animal shelter, wildlife services, education work, inspectorate and animal ambulance service.
This year's World Animal Month comes at a particularly important time for the charity as work continues on the new Wildlife Hospital as part of the #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal, the largest project in the GSPCA's history.
Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager, said:
"World Animal Month and World Animal Day are wonderful opportunities to celebrate the incredible animals we share our lives and island with, whilst also recognising the dedicated people who help them.
Every day and night our team and volunteers are helping animals in need, whether that is rescuing an injured gull, caring for a seal pup, helping a lost dog find its home, responding to wildlife emergencies or supporting animals that have nowhere else to turn.
We simply could not do this without the amazing support we receive from our community."
The GSPCA is asking anyone who would like to celebrate World Animal Month to consider one of the many ways they can help support local animals.

Steve added:
"As we celebrate World Animal Month, we would like to thank everyone who supports the GSPCA, whether that is through volunteering, fundraising, donating, adopting, sponsoring animals or simply spreading the word about the work we do.
Alongside our Wildlife Hospital appeal, we are also looking ahead to the future and seeking support for replacement animal ambulances which are such a vital lifeline for animals across the island.
We are currently caring for Delilah the rescued seal pup, who continues to make good progress and is doing very well. She still has a journey ahead of her before she can return to the wild, but her recovery is a wonderful reminder of why the support we receive is so important.
Every donation, every volunteer hour and every act of kindness helps us continue being there for animals 24 hours a day, 365 days a year."
