Earlier today grey seal pups Sealia and Gully were returned back to their home waters.

Gully was rescued last November and Sealia early January, both were between a quarter to a third of the 40kgs they should have weighed for their age which was under a month old and extremely poorly, emaciated and in such ill health they wouldn’t have survived if they hadn't have been rescued.

They needed around the clock intensive care for many weeks and required tube feeding until they were strong enough to eat on their own.

With Sealia now 48kgs and Gully 54kgs and the weather ideal, today was the BIG day to get them back to the wild.

Geoff George Animal Collection Officer and Head of Marine Mammals said “What an amazing morning we have had today getting Sealia and Gully back to the wild.”

“I was a little worried they may not behave, but both seal pups were very well behaved getting boxed up for their travels to Jethou.”

“A huge thank you to Island Rib Voyages and those on Jethou for all of their help and support with the release today.”

“Sealia and Gully were both keen to get back into the sea and then spoilt us all showing off in the water in front of us, playing and looking like they were have a great deal of fun.”

“Those living on Jethou as they have so many times before will keep a watchful eye on Sealia and Gully like they have done so many times in recent years.”

“With 3 seal pups released we now have Andrew, Hannah and mambo and we still need donations to help towards their care.”

“Both are so lucky to be alive after the condition they were found last winter and after months of care at the GSPCA and so many incredible donations they were fit and ready this morning to make their journey back to the sea.”

“Both have more than quadrupled their weight since the were rescued and we are so thankful to Island Rib Voyages and those on Jethou for all of their help with the release today.”

“Both were very keen to et back in the sea and it was a very special moment for us all to see them after months of care back where they belong.”

“To support our Wildlife Hospital you can Buy a Brick, make a donation or even help support a room or section for the build and anyone who would like to support this build we would love to hear from them.”

“With over 2000 wild animals through our care every year a new Wildlife Hospital would be a dream come true for us all at the GSPCA.”

“Today has been a truly magical day and a huge thanks to all that heave helped us help these two seal pups back to the wild.”

“Mambo and Hannah are only a few weeks away from being released and we will of course keep everyone up to date and how all three are doing.”
