Northern Trust Volunteers Help GSPCA Enjoy a Wonderful "West is Best" at the West Show

The GSPCA would like to thank everyone who visited their stand at this year's West Show, as well as the many volunteers who helped make the two-day event such a success.

Despite a heavy downpour first thing on Wednesday morning, the weather soon improved in time for the opening of the Show, allowing visitors to enjoy two fantastic days celebrating all that makes the West Show so special. True to the event's famous slogan, "West is Best", thousands of islanders and visitors enjoyed a wonderful community atmosphere across both days.

The GSPCA stall was busy throughout the Show, with supporters stopping by to learn more about the charity's work, the £3.7 million #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal, and to browse a range of GSPCA goods and gifts. The charity's popular toy tombola, featuring an array of cuddly toys, proved to be a particular favourite with families and raised valuable funds to support the animals in the charity's care and the ongoing redevelopment of the GSPCA site.

GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne and GSPCA Training and Community Officer Tim Pellett were on hand throughout both days, meeting many supporters, answering questions about animal welfare and rescue work, and sharing updates on the charity's exciting plans for the future.

The GSPCA was once again delighted to be supported by volunteers from long-term corporate supporters Northern Trust. Three Northern Trust staff volunteered on Wednesday, with four more helping on Thursday. The team included Pascal, Lisa, Wongani, Gary, Zoe, Dean and Jon, many of whom have generously given their time to support the charity at previous events.

Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager, said:

"A huge thank you to everyone who came and visited us at the West Show. The support we received over the two days was incredible and it was wonderful to meet so many people interested in animal welfare and our Biggest Build Appeal. Our toy tombola was extremely popular and helped raise valuable funds for the animals that need our care. We are especially grateful to the team from Northern Trust, who continue to support the GSPCA year after year through volunteering, fundraising and many other initiatives. Their help once again made a huge difference."

Tim Pellett, GSPCA Training and Community Officer, added:

"The West Show is always one of the highlights of our events calendar and this year was no exception. Despite the wet start on Wednesday morning, the community came out in force and we had a fantastic time speaking with so many showgoers. Events like the West Show give us a wonderful opportunity to share the work of the GSPCA, promote responsible pet ownership and raise much-needed funds for the charity."

Visitors to the Show's Paws for Support tent also had the opportunity to meet three very special GSPCA residents currently looking for a loving forever home. Sisters Charlotte, Camilla and Louise, three affectionate and playful ferrets, were helping represent the charity and capture the hearts of visitors throughout the event.

Anyone interested in offering the trio a home together can find out more at:

The GSPCA would like to thank the West Show organisers, all those who visited the stand, everyone who supported the tombola and purchased goods, and the volunteers who helped across both days.

The charity's next event will be the North Show next Wednesday and Thursday, where the GSPCA team will once again be joined by volunteers from Northern Trust and looks forward to meeting more supporters while raising funds for the animals in its care and the #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal.
