From 1 January 2021 onwards, the UK and Channel Islands will have Part 2 listed status under the EU Pet Travel Scheme, meaning that people travelling from the Bailiwick of Guernsey with their pets and assistance dogs will need to follow new requirements in order to travel to the EU.

A current EU pet passport issued in GB/Channel Islands will not be valid for travel to the EU from 1 January. Instead, a pet travelling from the Bailiwick to the EU will need an Animal Health Certificate (AHC). The guidance relating to travel for pets on https://gov.gg/pettravelscheme has been updated. This latest guidance can also be found by going through the States of Guernsey's Brexit guidance pages: gov.gg/Brexit. This also includes advice for those travelling to Guernsey from the EU.

States Veterinary Officer David Chamberlain said "Negotiations between the EU and UK are ongoing, but in relation to travelling with pets specifically we now have a bit more certainty on what the situation is, which is very welcome. I'd urge anyone thinking of travelling to check the guidance well before they make their trip to see what they need to do."

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Although travel is difficult due to the pandemic it is important that pet owners are aware of the new changes if they are wanting to travel abroad with their pets.”

“Thankfully travel between the UK and Guernsey will remain as it is so far as we are aware but it is important to monitor and ensure you are aware of the regulations and be prepared.”
