The GSPCA was delighted to welcome Pam Aubert, the newly appointed CEO of the Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JSPCA), on her first official visit to the GSPCA in Guernsey on Saturday 19th July.
During her visit, Pam was given a full tour of the GSPCA Animal Shelter by GSPCA Manager and CEO Steve Byrne, who introduced her to the team and shared insights into the charity’s work and ongoing challenges. The tour included a discussion about the GSPCA’s Big Build project, which aims to modernise and expand facilities, including the construction of new kennels and a wildlife hospital.
Steve and Pam also discussed future collaboration between island-based animal charities and how they can work more closely together to improve animal welfare across the Channel Islands and beyond.
As a direct result of this positive and forward-thinking meeting, a new ADCH (Association of Dogs and Cats Homes) Islands Regional Working Group has now been established—an initiative driven by Steve Byrne, who served as an ADCH Trustee for nearly a decade. He continues to contribute actively as a member of the ADCH Members Engagement Group and an ADCH Assessor.
The newly formed ADCH Islands Regional Group will include animal welfare charities from Guernsey, Jersey, and the Isle of Man, creating an opportunity to share best practice, support one another, and raise standards of care across all islands. The group’s first online meeting is scheduled for September.
