With the cold weather we have been putting warnings out and advice to help animals but please don’t forget your own well being.
It’s rather cold and we have a number of GSPCA Baseball Caps on sale for just £8.50 at the Shelter in St Andrews and you can see them and other products on our online shop http://gspca.org.gg/shop
As a gift or for yourself we have a range of GSPCA goods on sale.
Other ways to support the GSPCA this Christmas are –
With cold weather the GSPCA want pet owners to consider all the animals of Guernsey. During a cold snap the GSPCA are on full alert, ready to deal with a variety of animals affected by the low temperatures.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “With the cold snap upon us the GSPCA are concerned for wildlife, pets and other animals kept outside.”
Have you been to the Town Church Charity Christmas Tree Festival yet?
Over 40 fantastic trees raising funds local good causes.
On until the 29th December if you are in St Peter Port please check out the fantastic displays including the GSPCA tree dressed by team members Helen Holmes and Michelle Champion.
The event raises funds for all of the good causes with trees so please donate kindly to help all of those involved.
Today the Bailiwick continues to see weather that puts our animals and wildlife at risk.
Often during the winter months with the high winds and stormy weather makes it difficult for wild animals and birds to feed and rest.
Also with the high winds we have to ensure our pets and animals kept outside are safe and secure.
The GSPCA are asking those that live around and visit our coast to please watch out for injured animals in need as well as seal pups which can get separated from their mothers at this time of year especially when we see bad weather.
Tonight is the last volunteer induction of 2017
This year we have held 15 volunteer inductions taking this years inducted volunteers to a total of 169 not including others that have helped from businesses, groups and other organisations.
Although volunteering at the Animal Shelter starts at 13 for those under 13 they are always welcome to attend and get involved with events and fund raising.
It all takes place at the GSPCA from 630pm and all are welcome. It takes around 90 minutes and includes an induction video, talk and certificate.
This December the Work to Benefit team and St Andrews Floral Group are helping the GSPCA improve the Memorial Garden on site.
For nearly 145 years the GSPCA has helped and continues to help thousands of islanders each year with the death of their pet.
On site at the GSPCA we have a Memorial Garden area which we have been working to improve thanks to many kind donations and support.
We are at a stage where we are looking to purchase plants and shrubs to help landscape the area and make it a pleasant and comfortable place to sit and reflect past pets and loved ones.
With the driving wind and rain recently we are asking for your help to gift the cats a little something to keep them dry when the weather is really bad.
We have been trailing perspex clear sheets on some of the cats pens with great success. Each cat pen has an outside section and we have found that hanging the perspex panels on the mesh the cats still have a lovely view and plenty of fresh air while keeping the worst of the weather out.
In the last few weeks the GSPCA have helped two stray cats with major health issues.
Bruce a grey and white cat arrived at the GSPCA with a ruptured diaphragm and required a massive operation to help save his life costing just over £1000. Bruce is recovering well in the cattery at the GSPCA but if he hadn’t been seen by the vets he wouldn’t be alive today.
Tomsie as she was called but nicknamed Hope by a few of the staff is a black cat that was rescued from St Peter Port and we have sadly been unable to find an owner.
At the GSPCA we have a variety of products on sale to make a great Christmas gift.
We have a wide range of hoodies which some can be seen by popping along to the GSPCA or on our online store - http://gspca.org.gg/shop
To see the full range pop into the GSPCA reception 9am - 5pm Monday - Saturday or Sunday 11am - 4pm
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We have a lovely range of GSPCA tops from t-shirts to hoodies on sale at the GSPCA ideal for that animal fan."
