On Monday we held the first pet first aid course at the GSPCA with a focus on helping save your cats life.
Taking the course was GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who has over 20 years working in the field of animal rescue and with over 3000 animals through the doors every year at the GSPCA the team see cases of animal first aid on a daily basis here in Guernsey.
5 lovely ladies attended the evening and not only learnt how to save a cats life they also got to meet many at the Shelter after the course.
During the school breaks we run a series of guided tours at the GSPCA and we have now planned for 2018 with the next happening over the Easter break

Last month the GSPCA celebrated 145 years with our #GSPCApurpleWeek.
Many got involved and one very special, generous and kind school was Vale Primary who last week donated over 500 items from hay to animal feed to help the 500 animals in our care.
At the start of #GSPCAPurpleWeek GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne went to see the 500 pupils and talk to them about the work of the Shelter and this week three reception classes enjoyed guided tours at the GSPCA.

The GSPCA Community & Training Officer is a unique role designed to not only set up the first ever Animal Care NVQ's in Guernsey, it is also a post to help benefit a greater number of placements through Social Security and increase their skills amongst other challenges.

The new date for the Dog First Aid Course has been set for Wednesday 28th March 2018.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We have been running dog and cat first aid courses for over four years and have trained over 200 participants to help save animals lives.”
Isabelle Vets recently announced the winner of the Isabelle Vets Pet Hero competition which was Catrina the tabby cat, as voted for by the general public.
All of the nominated finalists were ‘Heros’ in their own right, with over five hundred people voting for their chosen hero in a closely-run competition. On a small Island such as Guernsey, this truly shows the kindness and enthusiasm of people, in taking the time to recognise the bravery of all of these stoic pets.
Last Monday we held our third volunteer induction of 2018 and welcomed 5 new volunteers at the GSPCA taking this years total to 46 new volunteers inducted.
Chau Yu, Julia, Maddi, Alex and Michele all arrived for 630pm where they learnt all about the work at the GSPCA and how to work safely as a volunteer.
The event took place with GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who after their induction spoke with each of them and set a date to start with the youngest starting from 13 which is the minimum age to help with the animals on site at the Shelter.
The GSPCA have planned out the dates for 2018 Volunteer Inductions and the third takes place tonight at 6.30pm at the GSPCA in St Andrews.
The induction will take place with GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who will greet the new volunteers and then show a video about who we are, what we do, the ways volunteers can help and an induction of how to help safely to all the new volunteers who need to be aged from 13 years upwards to help with the animals on site.
Each March around the world rescues celebrate and promote Adopt a Rescue Guinea Pig Month.
March last year we had none at the Shelter looking for homes but this year we have 14 currently in our care.
All 14 are males and two are awaiting their homes, which are Cassiopeia and Alfie.
The 12 currently in need of a loving new owner are Yertle, Terrific Whatzit, Raphael, Mudface, Morla, Moriarty, Michelangelo, Mack, Filimore, Filigree, Donatello and Alderman Ptolemy.
