Last night 23 young boys and girls from the 4th Guernsey Beavers visited the GSPCA to see behind the scenes at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
On a sunny evening they arrived for a 6pm tour with GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who took a group photo of the troop before showing them around the site where they got to see baby birds being fed, hedgehogs, bunnies, our resident tortoise, a puppy and much more.
They learnt how we care for the animals at the GSPCA and the work that is carried out 24 hours 7 days a week.
Every year the GSPCA are called out and receive stray dogs and cats during periods of fireworks that have either escaped or run off due to being scared by the loud bangs they make.
Tomorrow their is a private display at St Pierre Park Hotel at 10pm and on Liberation Day Saturday 9th May the display will take place along the seafront.
To help your dogs and cats during these very stressful times we have a SALE on the Adaptil and Feliway products which are designed to appease your pets during times of difficulty.
During the May 2015 half term break we will be running a series of guided tours at the GSPCA.
This is your opportunity to visit behind the scenes at our Animal Shelter in St Andrews and see the work being carried out for the new build.
We are arranging guided tours on a series of dates at 2pm.
We ask for a minimum donation of £5 per person and £3 per child, or £15 for a family of four.
The tours take around 80 minutes and you get to see in many of the departments and a variety of species.
Yesterday a family were out walking their new rescue beagle cross who managed to escape with a flexi lead attached.
Jessie is an 8 year old, white and brindle female and is wearing a Dogs Trust yellow collar.
She is a very nervous rescue dog and was last seen on Tuesday 28th April at 3pm at St Martins church graveyard.
If you spot 'Jessie' then please call the GSPCA on 257261 as soon as possible.
Last night the GSPCA held the fourth bingo night of 2015 at the Market Bistro.
To help celebrate Superhero Day, it was held with a Superhero theme with Batman calling out the numbers.
Every winner received fun themed prize as well as other goodies and cash.
The event was held in the Inner Market Building where tables of all sizes were set up for those attending.
The GSPCA and Guernsey Bereavement Service are teaming up for the third time to provide a training session in Pet Bereavement for those working or volunteering in the animal care industry in the Bailiwick of Guernsey.
The aim of the evening is to educate the many volunteers and staff across the Bailiwick help those pet owners with the loss of their beloved pet.
Zoe Le Pelley from the Guernsey Bereavement Service will lead the talk on the following subjects:
After a very busy Guernsey Careers Show the GSPCA are expecting a full house for our next Volunteer Induction Evening on Wednesday May 6th.
Whilst at the Careers Show at Beau Sejour the GSPCA team spoke to dozens of interested students and adults looking to help animals in Guernsey.
The next induction will be held at the GSPCA 6.30pm on Wednesday May 6th.
All ages are welcome, but to help on site with the animals you have to be 14 years old or over.
Today is World Veterinary Day and the GSPCA would like to thank all of the vets and their teams in Guernsey for their wonderful work.
In 2000, the World Veterinary Association initiated World Veterinary Day on the last Saturday of April each year to bring attention to the many ways veterinarians contribute to the health and well-being of animals and people around the world.
At the GSPCA we see all sorts of strays and yesterday we were handed a stray conure that was found on Burnt Lane exhausted.
The team at the GSPCA have named the green, black and red bird 'Bert' who is recovering well from his or her ordeal.
He or she is possibly a red or maroon bellied conure and is an adult bird with no ring for identification.
Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant said "The stray conure was exhausted when rescued and brought to us yesterday, but is recovering well and very chirpy now."
