UPDATE - Bonnie the grey seal pup at the GSPCA - Tuesday 8th March 2016

Submitted by Steve on 16:04, 8th Mar, 2016 | 0

We are pleased to update that Bonnie the grey seal pup rescued over a month ago on the South coast of Guernsey continues to improve despite having a recent worm burden.

Bonnie was off her fish for a couple of days but is now back to her old appetite eating kilo's of fish every day.

It is not unusual for seals to be subject to worms and whilst in captivity it is easily resolved.

Today we are pleased to announce that Bonnie the grey seal pup took her first dip in one of our rehabilitation pools.

Bonnie who was rescued close to death last month has been improving daily at the GSPCA and with her weight gaining and health improving the team decided to let her experience her first trip outside since she was rescued.

Geoff George GSPCA Animal Collection Officer and main seal carer said "It's been over a month since we rescued Bonnie the grey seal pup and she has been doing better than we could have hoped."

As the bad weather continues and grey seal pups due - advice on what to do if you see a sick seal pup from the GSPCA

Submitted by Steve on 09:47, 18th Nov, 2015 | 0

Every Autumn the shores of the Bailiwick see grey seal pups being born, and the GSPCA are issuing advice today because of the inclement weather we have seen recently.

The earliest seal we have rescued in recent years was Jethou Bumblebee who was found during the last week of November back in 2012.

During the last few winters the GSPCA have rescued four Grey Seal Pups in total.  Two in 2013/14 Eden and Trinity and the previous winter Jethou Bumblebee and Hanois.

Seal pups Eden & Trinity at the GSPCA in Guernsey have their first dip in the pool

Submitted by GSPCA on 17:01, 4th Mar, 2014 | 0

Seal pups Trinity and Eden who were rescued after being found extremely emaciated at only 17 and 13kgs when they should have been around 40kgs in weight had a very exciting afternoon today.

Both seals have roughly doubled their weight since being rescued in January and battled off a number of ailments, so today were introduced to the large pool here at the GSPCA.

Eden now at 25kgs and Trinity at 31kgs had very different approaches at entering the pools but once in started having a great time.

Every Autumn the shores of the Bailiwick see Grey Seal pups being born and the GSPCA are issuing advice today on what to do especially with the rough weather that we currently have.

Last year the GSPCA rescued two Grey Seal Pups which were called Jethou Bumblebee and Hanois.

Fortunately both were rescued in time and were able to be rehabilitated at the GSPCA in Guernsey.

Earlier this Spring they were released back in the wild on Jethou and we have had regular sightings of them which certainly warmed the hearts of the GSPCA team.
