GSPCA Biggest Build Appeal: Building for the Future of Animals and Our Community
Breaking News from the GSPCA: A New Chapter Begins as the Build Expands
As part of our ongoing Biggest Build Appeal, the GSPCA is proud to announce the next major milestone in our journey to transform animal welfare in Guernsey. This week marks the demolition of a series of long-serving buildings that have played a vital role in our history—making way for a brighter, more compassionate future.
These buildings, once home to our rehoming cattery, staff room, ferret and small animal areas, dog grooming space, and laundry facilities, have sheltered countless animals over the years. From housing nearly 100 guinea pigs from a single rescue to supporting multiple rabbit rescues, not to mention thousands of cats over more than 4 decades, these spaces have been a lifeline for animals in need. We honour their legacy as we look ahead to what’s next.
What’s Coming Next
In their place, we are building a state-of-the-art 12-kennel facility designed to care for:
This new section will also include modern laundry facilities and a dedicated dog grooming area, ensuring every animal receives the care and dignity they deserve.
Wildlife Hospital Foundations Underway
Meanwhile, the foundations for our new Wildlife Hospital are progressing steadily. This vital facility will provide specialist care for Guernsey’s injured, orphaned, and endangered wildlife—offering hope and healing to thousands of animals each year.
How You Can Help
We’ve raised £1,500,000 so far, but we need to reach £3,700,000 to complete the Wildlife Hospital, Kennels, and Ferret Housing by November 2026. We’re calling on our incredible community to help us cross the finish line.
Ways to support:
Every contribution, big or small, helps us build for the future of animals and our community.
Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager, said: "Starting to lay the foundations for the Wildlife Hospital was a huge moment for us and for animal welfare in Guernsey and this next chapter is incredible all be it emotional to see.”
“The buildings we’ve demolished had decades of history and this next part of the demolition brings back many memories for the team, some who have been helping at the GSPCA for over 30 years.”
“Having been in place for well over four decades the thousands of cats, kittens and other animals that it has housed and helped, not to mention the cruelty case animals and multiple animals rescued and removed from nearly 100 guinea pigs from one rescue to cases of 30 rabbits from one home it has achieved incredible support to our 24/7 work at the GSPCA.”
“The cats moved out a decade ago in the last big build achieved by the GSPCA and this project would have started much sooner if it hadn’t been for covid but we are now excited to see the next stage and preparations for a new much needed kennel build with other facilities gets well underway.”
“This area will house new kennels to help dogs from cruelty cases to those needing homes, strays to those needing emergency care and isolation for various reasons.”
“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported the Big Build so far, but we still need help to raise the remaining £2.2 million to bring this vision to life."
“Together we can build a brighter future for the animals of Guernsey.”
The GSPCA continues to appeal to the public, businesses, and the wider community to support the Big Build. Every donation – large or small – helps bring the Wildlife Hospital and much-needed dog kennel improvements one step closer to completion.
