On the 13th February the GSPCA team were called out to a very poorly seal pup we named Pebbles and we have some great news as she is doing extremely well.

We were all so worried for her when she first arrived and she required around the clock intensive care, but each day she has improved and this week she got her first taste of the outdoors since arriving.

At only 2-3 months of age she is now eating fish well and we are all so pleased with her progress.

Now out on the pool the aim is to get her fit and fat enough for her release which we are striving to do very soon.

Geoff George Head of Marine Mammals at the GSPCA “It was very worrying when Pebbles first arrived as she was so thin, dehydrated, chesty and weak.”

“She needed around the clock tube feeding but she has quickly moved on to solid fish and this week we moved her outside into the fresh air, sunshine and on to the largest pool.”

“We are so pleased with her progress and doing all we can to get he back to the wild very soon.”

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “It is so fantastic to see Pebbles out on the pool and eating on her own.”

“Each seal pup eats around 20-30 fresh fish a day and for just £5 will help feed a meal to Pebbles or Andrew.”

“You can donate through our #GuernseyCoronavirusCrisisAppeal via https://giving.gg/donate/event/5876/GSPCA-Coronavirus-Emergency-Appeal and each donation £5 or over before the end of the month will be entered into a prize drawer for a Becky Rowe Jewellery Sterling Silver ”Luna” Unicorn.”

“You can also donate by calling 01481 257261 or through the post GSPCA, Rue des Truchots, St Andrews, Guernsey, GY6 8UD, please don’t come to the Shelter at this time with the current restrictions in place unless absolutely essential and please call first.”

“Thankfully we are through seal pup season now but there are many baby birds being found and where possible they are always best raised by their parents and for advice on what to do you can always call us 24/7 or check our advice online via http://www.gspca.org.gg/animals/wildlife-advice .”

“Thank you to everyone that has been donating to our #GuernseyCoronavirusCrisisAppeal and have a Happy Easter and Stay Safe.”
