At the GSPCA we are currently appealing for funds to help Lido a stunning, friendly cat who have a large growth in his ear that needs urgent removal.
The operation is not simple by any means and is estimated to cost between £1500 and £2000 and we are appealing for help.
Lido is almost 2 years old and is a silver Maine Coon which was brought in earlier this summer as the owner could no longer care for him.
The Donkey Derby is always a lovely family day out and why not pop along to see the GSPCA and many other charity stalls tomorrow from 12pm.
We are hugely grateful to the Lions Club of Guernsey that hold the annual event and we look forward joining them this weekend.
This Saturday is a busy day for the GSPCA as we not only have our stall at the Donkey Derby we also have our annual flag day taking place around Guernsey.
For the seventh year in a row the GSPCA are attending the West Show which will be held on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th August 2018.
If you would like to help volunteer of support us we would love to see you on our stall.
If you can help please call 257261 or email [email protected]
Once again our stall will be full of great games & GSPCA goods.
Every year we have a great time enjoying a wonderful local event whilst raising funds on our stall to help the many animals in our care.
Yesterday despite around the clock care Seal the Common Seal Pup sadly passed away at the GSPCA.
At only 7.2 kgs the emaciated pup with multiple health problems including seizures that was found at Chouet was so weak that the team were unable to save Seal and all are extremely saddened with the death of the poorly seal pup.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “All of the GSPCA team are devasted of the loss of Seal the common Seal Pup that was rescued at Chouet on Wednesday.”
Yesterday GSPCA Ambulance Officer and Head of Marine Mammals Geoff George was called out to rescue and help a very poorly marine mammal at Chouet.
Only weeks after releasing Temperance the Grey Seal Pup back to the wild we now have a Common Seal Pup in our intensive care room for sick and injured seal pups.
Common Seals are extremely rare in Guernsey waters and to see a pup is even more so unusual, which certainly helps explain the condition of this very poorly pup.
At the GSPCA we are looking for volunteers to help with Flag Day event this Saturday at two Marks & Spencers stores.
If you are able to help us out we would really appreciate it, please could you contact Sarah Ozanne at the Shelter with the time slots and places you can help with.
We are looking at 2 hour slots but anything is appreciated. The slots are:

On Monday 30th July 8 passengers from the cruise ship Crstal Serenity were greeted by GSPCA staff members Tim Pellett and Rual Gomez.
The Voluntourists who were on their holidays from around the world arrived at the Shelter just after 9am and had a short induction and were then sent to help the staff and care for the many animals at the GSPCA.
Each received a gift of a GSPCA t-shirt to wear for their half day volunteering caring for the many animals at the GSPCA.
DLM and the GSPCA are delighted to showcase the proposed designs for the new GSPCA Wildlife Hospital and launch the Build Partner Scheme.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "The GSPCA are hugely grateful to DLM Architects who have listened and understood our requirements and turned them into this wonderful design. We believe this much needed purpose-built Wildlife Hospital will enable us to meet the growing demands of wildlife on our island.”
On Friday 20th July the GSPCA team welcomed three of the team from Guernsey’s larger sister island Jersey from their animal welfare charity.
JSPCA staff Lucinda, Babs and Kari were greeted at Guernsey airport in the early hours by GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who spent the day talking to the visitors and showing them the work, projects and plans for the future for the GSPCA.
The staff from Jersey got to meet members of the GSPCA team from volunteers to staff, work experience to trustees and had a through behind the scenes tour.
