The GSPCA have a limited numbers left of Purple Poppies on sale at our front desk.
Organised by Jeanne Gathercole and Linda Laine , who both adore animals who are asking the community to ‘Please wear your purple poppy alongside your red poppy’.
The purple poppies were kindly made by some members of the St Martins WI group who meet at Pat Pursey’s west coast home to knit and natter.
Sam Reach and her mum, Valerie who lives in France but loves animals also wanted to lend their support and helped with knitting and assembly of the purple poppies.
Christmas Lottery Tickets are now available from at the GSPCA at a cost of £3 per ticket under the revamped lottery.
The jackpot will continue to be a climbing prize, based on the number of tickets sold, but it starts at a guaranteed minimum first prize of £500,000.
In total the prize fund for the 2018 Lottery is larger than in previous years, starting at £3.3million, with the overall prize fund growing as well as the jackpot until the draw on Thursday 20th December.
On Saturday 13th October 2018, Scouts from the 3rd St. Martins Cub Scout group came to the GSPCA to help out at the Shelter and gain hours towards their badges in Community Impact, Environmental Conservation and World Challenge awards.
The 9 Scouts, guided by parent volunteers, were able to give a good tidy both the GSPCA Memorial Garden and the Poison Garden and duck pond walkway of leaves and weeds.
We are fast approaching the firework season where the GSPCA helps more animals scared and injured by bonfires and loud noises than any other time of year.
Every year we hear of firework related incidents involving animals and children. While fireworks may be exciting and pretty to look at and its fun to celebrate many celebrations with a bang, we must put our safety, the safety of our pets and the local wildlife first
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager “Every year we are called out and help stray dogs to hedgehogs caught in bonfires over the firework period.”
Every year many children with parents or guardians head out at Halloween on the 31st October dressed up to celebrate the American tradition of 'Trick or Treat'.
With the growing concern of the consumption of sweets and sugar why not this Halloween raise funds for charity.
With the dark evenings it is important to ensure you follow some simple safety hints and tips, but this year could your Halloween night out help benefit the hundreds of animals in need in Guernsey.
The week of Half Term the GSPCA are running Spooky Tours and Halloween Treasure Hunts at the GSPCA.
Last year we had young vampires, cats, zombies and monsters for the scary events at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
The groups on arrival will have lots of spooky things to do and see from Webster our tarantula to the many lizards in our care, black cats and many others some with scary names.
Tours take about 45 minutes and once the treasure hunt quiz is complete all will get prizes for their great fancy dress and doing well in the quiz.
Thank you to all that supported us at the Support Adoption for Pets Summer Fundraising Drive at Pets at Home over the Summer.
This Summer the GSPCA were at Pets at Home with GSPCA team members, a few of our teams animals and some from the Shelter.
We were helping sell their Scratch Cards for the Support Adoption for Pets Summer Fundraising Drive with the sales of tickets in Guernsey helping the many animals at the GSPCA and even had the Pets at Home Manager locked up in a cage raising funds for the GSPCA.
