Between Monday 16th and Friday 20th July the GSPCA assisted for the first time with the IoD Management Shadowing.
The Institute of Directors or IoD in Guernsey has been placing Year 12 students (age 17) with local firms for over 20 years for a highly rewarding three day ‘ Management Shadowing Experience’. KPMG are proud to sponsor the programme and support the IoD in administering the scheme and providing valuable relationship management with over 70 firms to ensure the best possible experience for our candidates.
With the exceptionally warm weather it has been exceptionally busy at the GSPCA.
One of the biggest casualties being effected have been hedgehogs and the GSPCA is appealing for islanders to do all they can to help our prickly friends.
From dehydrated baby hedgehogs to those covered in fly eggs and maggots we have helped 32 hedgehogs since the start of this month.
Two baby hoglets that were found dehydrated close to death were Minnie and Britany who has her picture above.
Grounds at the GSPCA have been transformed over recent years and this week the GSPCA team of volunteers and groups that support our work have been busier than usual.
Yesterday we hosted the Floral Guernsey Judges Rae Beckwith and Alan Dorey who were visiting the site to see the work we carry out on our grounds for the community and conservation.
Today Temperance the grey seal pup was released back to the wild.
When he was found he was the thinnest ever seal pups to be rescued by the GSPCA found at Beaucette back in November.
Temperance has taken many months to build the strength and weight needed for release and today was his big day.
The team prepared Temperance this morning ready for his transportation to Albert Pier where we met the team from Rib Voyages and members of the press.
Last Friday to Sunday the GSPCA were at Pets at Home with GSPCA team members and a few of our teams animals and some from the Shelter.
We were helping sell their Scratch Cards for the Support Adoption for Pets Summer Fundraising Drive with the sales of tickets in Guernsey helping the many animals at the GSPCA. Also we had other raffle tickets on sale and even had the Pets at Home Manager locked up in a cage raising funds for the GSPCA.
The GSPCA would like to thank all involved and supported for a fun three days raising funds for the many animals at the GSPCA.
On Monday night the GSPCA once again joined Lé Viaër Marchi is one of Guernsey’s great annual get-togethers, celebrating the best of Island traditions which took place at Saumarez Park from 5pm until sunset.
The GSPCA stall had a fantastic evening raising funds for the many animals in our care and talking to those interested in our work.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We had a fabulous evening on Monday at Lé Viaër Marchi and want to say a huge thank you to the Guernsey National Trust and all involved.”
Last Tuesday Barbara Keywood from the JSPCA popped in to say hello and have a tour of the Shelter.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager greeted Barbara last week to show the member of staff from the JSPCA the work we do and plans for the future.
Barbara Keywood said “Thank you so much for the tour on Tuesday, it was amazing looking around and chatting to you.”
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “It was lovely to chat to and show around Barbara from the JSPCA last week.”
We are very proud to share that one of our amazing team members Beckie Bailey has been nominated for Carer of the Year in the Guernsey Press Pride of Guernsey Award sponsored by Specsavers.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Beckie is a real star and we are all so proud of her at the GSPCA.”
“Beckie always goes over and above from hand rearing baby hedgehogs to getting involved with events like the Man Power Flight at the Harbour Carnival.”
“Nothing is too much for Beckie and she is always thinking of others.”
On June 17th 2018 by kind permission of Major and Mrs. Phillippi their gardens at Le Vallon, Ruette Fainel, Le Vallon, St. Martin were open to the public in aid of the GSPCA.
Refreshments and cakes were on sale and despite the drizzly afternoon 100’s enjoyed the stunning grounds of Le Vallon in St Martins.
Over £1000 was raised and we want to thank Major and Mrs. Phillippi, Floral Guernsey, all that volunteered and especially those that supported.
