Last month the GSPCA joined in with the fantastic annual Torteval Scarecrow Festival.
This was the third year we have been allowed to join this wonderful family Guernsey event which is held in high esteem by so many.
In previous years the GSPCA focused their scarecrow display on Jessie the beagle, Olivia the turtle, the 25 Slovakian puppies, seal pups and other popular stories that have come from the Animal Shelter.
On the 22nd July on a wet and windy day Le Friquet Garden Centre organised a Family Fun Day in aid of the GSPCA.
With the inclement weather the event moved inside thanks to the space available at Le Friquet Garden Centre so with entertainment, face painting, BBQ, bouncy castles, planting and the GSPCA stall there was plenty to do and see.
The day was well attended and over £425 was raised for the many animals at the GSPCA.
On Sunday 1st October we are holding a Fun Family Day, Car Boot Sale and Fun Dog Show at the Mallard Cinema and through the day the GSPCA takes over all 4 screens to show a selection of films which we can now announce.
With plenty of parking and two huge fields there is plenty of room for all and with so much to see and do indoor and out we are looking forward to an exciting day.
Please contact GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne if you would like to book a pitch or if you can help volunteer on the day [email protected]
On Wednesday 6th September Rufus a 7 year old cockapoo became lost near Aladdin's Cave.
Rufus is a white and cream cockapoo and has been seen a number of times between St Andrews and St Martins over the last few days, especially near Havilland Hall.
The owners have been out all hours in search of their lost dog and have asked us to share their details in case you see him.
Rufus has appeared very shy so unlikely to approach strangers or people he doesn't know and if you see him please contact the numbers below as soon as possible.
Over the last few months the GSPCA have had in intensive and medical care over 70 guinea pigs many of which were suffering from a fungus called ringworm.
We were asked to help take in the poorly guinea pigs earlier in the Summer which have been under veterinary treatment and required quarantine care costing £1000's.
Since the start of 2017 the GSPCA have helped over 320 hedgehogs making it one of the busiest years on record with 4 months still to go.
Last night the latest baby hedgehog which was named Pins was found gasping and very thin and has spent the night in an intensive care unit with special food and care.
During the Summer at one point we had over 130 hedgehogs meaning the most hedgehogs we have ever had at one time in our care.
This weekend please support the Vale Earth Fair at Vale Castle.
Thanks to some kind volunteers we will have a tombola or two raising funds for the 500+ animals in our care.
To visit their page, buy tickets and full information of the great things happening and line up of bands please visit - www.valeearthfair.org/
On Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th August it is the North Show and the GSPCA will be there with a stall for the sixth year in a row.
Not only will we have a stall but we also have a float thanks to Jo Hardill and her family and friends in the Battle of Flowers
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "The summer is always extremely busy for us at the GSPCA between the 500+ animals that we have at the Shelter to all of the fantastic events of which many we attend."
Today volunteers are around Guernsey helping raise funds for the 500+ animals at the GSPCA.
We have had an exceptionally busy few months and every penny helps make a real difference for the 3000+ animals we help each year.
Each year we hold a series of flag days and today is when you will see volunteers, supporters and their 4 legged friends helping raise funds for the animals in need in Guernsey.
So if you see our helpers out and about please do say hello and help support them raising funds for the animals of Guernsey.
The Donkey Derby is always a lovely family day out and why not pop along to see the GSPCA and many other charity stalls today from 12pm.
We are hugely grateful to the Lions Club of Guernsey that hold the annual event and we look forward joining them this weekend.
This Saturday is a busy day for the GSPCA as we not only have our stall at the Donkey Derby we also have our annual flag day taking place around Guernsey.
