Good luck to Jim Cathcart from BBC Guernsey in his new role who recently enjoyed a guided tour at the GSPCA with his daughter

During the Sumer Jim Cathcart from BBC Guernsey popped up to the GSPCA for a guided tour with his daughter Alicia.

Jim who worked in radio for 30 years finished at BBC Guernsey last week and the GSPCA team and animals wish him all the best in his new career with St Johns Ambulance where last night he and a colleague helped rescue an injured pigeon which is now at the GSPCA after the GSPCA Ambulance popped by St John’s HQ last night to collect the poorly bird.

Over the years at BBC Guernsey staff and volunteers from the GSPCA have been interviewed countless times by Jim.

Nordben Life and Pension Insurance Co. Limited staff working extremely hard to help the GSPCA Memorial Garden & Grounds

Last Thursday a team of staff from Nordben Life and Pension Insurance Co. Limited gave up a day in the office to help out at the GSPCA and they certainly worked extremely hard helping the Shelter in St Andrews.

6 New Volunteers are welcomed and join the team at the GSPCA

Last night we held our 12th volunteer induction at the GSPCA and greeted  new volunteers keen to help at the GSPCA adding to the 134 inducted this year taking this years inducted volunteers to a total of 140 not including others that have helped from businesses, groups and other organisations.

The induction took place with GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne talking to the group about who we are, what we do, the ways volunteers can help and an induction of how to help safely to all the new volunteers who were aged from 13 years upwards.

GSPCA & St Andrews Floral Group recognised at the Guernsey Floral Awards

Earlier this month the GSPCA and St Andrews Floral Group attended this year's Floral Guernsey Community Competition.

There were four Bailiwick entries taking part in this year's Floral Guernsey Community Competition who were recognised for their achievements at this year’s awards evening including St Andrews Floral Group.  

Forest secured the overall winning place with a GOLD AWARD and the prestigious Lady Dorey Trophy with Herm and St Andrews also securing GOLD AWARDS and St Saviours a SILVER AWARD.

Huge congratulations to GSPCA staff member Beckie & her new husband who got married last week from all at the GSPCA

From all of the animals and team at the GSPCA we all wish Beckie Smith now Mrs Bailey and her new husband Jono many congratulations.

Beckie is a real star at the GSPCA helping in all areas of work from the ambulance to the hospital department, running Birthday tours to helping on the front desk.

Beckie has been a volunteer and supporter at the Shelter for many years and recently GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne asked Beckie a few questions about her new role as an Animal Care Assistant which she started earlier this year.

Thank you to all that helped and supported our GSPCA stall at Guernsey Marathon

The last Sunday in August saw the last Seafront Sunday of 2017 the GSPCA could attend with a stall to raise funds for animals in Guernsey and it was The 2017 Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Guernsey Marathon & Relay Races

A huge thank you must go to Sarah Petit and her family as well as volunteers like Bridget who popped along to give a hand.

With the sun shining a fantastic day was had by all and a wonderful £343 was raised to help the many animals at the GSPCA.

Thank you to those that helped and supported our tombola table at Vale Earth

At the end of August some kind volunteers helped run a small tombola table in aid of the GSPCA at Vale Earth Fair at Vale Castle.

We are hugely grateful to the organisors for allowing us to attend their wonderful annual event and those that supported and had a go which helped raise £81 for the 50+ animals at the GSPCA.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “A huge thanks to the volunteers that helped run our stall, the organisors and all that had a go or donated at Vale Earth Fair last month.”

North Show fun and first GSPCA Battle of Flowers Float thanks to Jo Hardill, her friends and family – thanks to all involved

Last month we took the GSPCA stall along to the North Show.  The North Show is one of the main events in Guernsey's summer calendar, and takes place in the wonderful rural setting of Saumarez Park.

The Guernsey North Show and Battle of Flowers is run by the Northern Agricultural and Horticultural Society and the GSPCA are very grateful to them for allowing us to come along.

A‘parrotly’ not a stow away parakeet but a stray bird checking out the Crystal Symphony Cruise Liner

Every year we help hundreds of stray animals find their way home but last month one feathered stray decided he wanted to take a holiday before being reunited with his owners.

Last month the GSPCA had a call from the harbour about a stray parakeet that had been found on the Crystal Symphony Cruise Ship that had flown on board while they were anchored at Guernsey.
