Today at the GSPCA a young lad called Oliver Marsh from Vale School popped in with a very nice gift for the Shelter.
He decided that instead of an ice bucket challenge and because he didn't want to get wet and cold that he would do a 'Nice Bucket Challenge'.
His 'Nice Bucket Challenge' consisted of a large blue bucket full of goodies for the animals at the GSPCA.
GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne met Oliver at Animal Shelter Reception and thanked Oliver for his wonderful gift.
At the GSPCA we provide a 24 hour emergency rescue service for animals in Guernsey, but we would like to remind everyone that for routine and none emergencies the opening times at the GSPCA.
The GSPCA reception telephone line is open Monday to Saturday between 9am and 5pm and we are closed bank holidays and Sundays.
The number for general enquiries, boarding, education, dog training, our shop and other services is 01481 257261 and we always welcome your call during our opening times.
This weekend on Sunday the 31st August we will have our fun games stall with the Guernsey Market Stall holders in Market Square in St Peter Port.
We will be setting up from 8am and if you would like to help on the day please pop down to give a hand and the stall will be open from around 9am once all set up.
From games to GSPCA goods and pet supplies we will be helping raise funds to help the 300 animals at the Shelter in St Andrews.
On Friday of last week the team at the GSPCA were over joyed to welcome the third of three groups of staff from Northern Trust who gave their day to help the team at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
Earlier today at the GSPCA we had an elderly cat arrive in a semi collapsed state.
The female tabby and white cat was found in Perelle and has a number of ailments.
Sadly no collar or microchip was found and she has been rushed to the vets where she is currently on a drip.
She has been called Cesca but we are appealing for an owner to come forward and if you have lost a cat in the Perelle area of an older age with no microchip then please call us on 01481 257261.
We are always looking for volunteers to help at the Shelter in a variety of roles.
You need to be at least 14 years old to help at the Shelter. Although if you are younger then you could still help. If you talk to your parents or guardians they may can help you with fund raising for the Animal Shelter.
At the GSPCA we often get asked about dogs and cats looking for homes, but many forget the other pets in need at the Animal Shelter.
In recent years we have seen a growing number of stray and unwanted ferrets and rabbits and currently we have 19 ferrets and 16 rabbits at the GSPCA.
Some are still in their 21 days as a stray whilst we look for their owners or on treatment, but we do have 13 rabbits and 11 ferrets in need of new homes.
National Dog Day (Also known as: International Dog Day & National Dog Appreciation Day) is celebrated on the 26th August annually and serves to help galvanise the public to recognise the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, and acknowledges family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort.
This Saturday whilst volunteers collect around Guernsey for the GSPCA Flag Day Lorna Prince the GSPCA Animal Welfare Manager is jumping out of a plane to raise funds to help animals in Guernsey.
Lorna Prince said "I am the Welfare Manager at the GSPCA and see how hard the Charity, it's volunteers and staff work to help wild and domestic animals in the Channel Islands."
"The GSPCA is supported wholly by donations and does not receive any State's funding."
