Last night with nearly 20 Animal Professionals and Volunteers, the first open training evening was held at the GSPCA in Pet Bereavement.
The GSPCA along with the Guernsey Bereavement Service worked together to hold an evening to help those in the animal industry last night.
On Easter Saturday 40 dogs, their owners and a team of volunteers took part in a sponsored walk to help two Guernsey charities.
Sponsored by the Pet Cabin and supported by Island FM the event helped raise funds for the GSPCA and Help a Guernsey Child.
The walk took place at 9.30 in the morning starting at North Beach and finishing at the Bridge.
On Good Friday class 1 of 2014 of Guernsey Student Police Officers undertook a 17 mile half island walk to raise money for the GSPCA.
They successfully completed this half an hour ahead of schedule having left Portelet at 9am and arriving at Liberation Monument in St Peter Port at almost exactly 4pm.
This year we the Petplan and ADCH received over 5,500 nominations from adopters, supporters, charity staff and volunteers.
They are thrilled that so many people have nominated to recognise the fantastic work that goes on in animal charities every day to help rescue and rehome pets in need. Their tireless efforts really do help to improve animal welfare.
Due to the quality and quantity of nominations received, the impartial and independent judging panel, which includes key industry representatives, had an extremely difficult task selecting three finalists for each category.
With Spring 2014 well underway the GSPCA are asking Islanders to be mindful of the many fledglings popping up around the Bailiwick.
The GSPCA would like to remind that as a general rule, it is best to leave baby birds alone.
A baby bird has a greater chance of survival in the wild than it has being hand-reared by man as they learn to fend for themselves and how to forage for food by their parents.
Around 2 weeks after hatching young birds in your Bailiwick garden usually leave the nest, just before they learn how to fly.
