With hot weather the GSPCA the GSPCA has been extremely busy with calls and reports from the public from dogs locked in cars, dogs being walked on hot pavements, animals in direct sunlight and we want to remind all pet owners of the real dangers to their pets.
With the extreme warm weather and direct sunlight, dogs and other animals whether in cars or their pens are potentially in a situation where you could kill your pet if it is left, regardless of the situation.
With continued cases of H5N1 avian influenza throughout the UK their Animal & Plant Department Agency have been sending out notifications of new cases in both wild and domestic birds and today the press release from the Guernsey States Vets of two confirmed cases the GSPCA want to ensure we all do what we can to help the birds of Guernsey and also our own health.
At the GSPCA we are extremely busy and we are calling any of our amazing volunteers with any time to help, those interested in helping and also recruiting for new team members.
From helping with our busy ambulance service to walking dogs, our full cattery to our packed rabbit and small animal department, over 100 hedgehogs to over 30 reptiles, gardening to helping on reception.
All trained volunteers need to do is pop in and the team will have plenty for you to do and a huge thanks in advance.

With nearly 500 animals in our care we are extremely busy at the GSPCA and are appealing for blankets and especially towels to help to provide them with bedding, to help with handling and drying off.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We use hundreds of towels and blankets every day at the GSPCA and our 4 laundry machines are on around the clock."
"As towels and blankets are used they can get torn by the animals or for those used in isolation or quarantine areas may have to be disposed of for medical reasons."

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “It is incredible the range of sponsored events people undertake to raise funds for our work at the GSPCA.”
“We have recently had the lovely story from Anaëlle and Maëlie who are just 8 and 10 years old.”
“We are incredibly grateful to both Anaëlle and Maëlie for undertaking such a kind act which not only raised an amazing £175 for the GSPCA, it will have helped save the lives of wildlife by removing rubbish from our coastline and helped the environment as a whole, all while making it a prettier place for us all to enjoy.”
On Monday the GSPCA opened its doors for the first time in over 2 years for an Educational Guided Tour.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager met nearly 30 Brownies and their leaders at 630pm on what was a lovely sunny evening.
The tour started in the hospital department where some of the Brownies got to feed some baby birds and finished in the cattery.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “It was lovely to take around the first Educational Guided Tour for over 2 years on Monday.”
