Over the last two weeks the GSPCA has had a number of calls from concerned dog owners following ‘attacks’ at some of the Island’s most popular beaches and walking sites.

First GSPCA Dog First Aid proves an enjoyable and educational experience

Yesterday the GSPCA held the first Dog First Aid Course at the Shelter.

11 dog lovers turned up on a very sunny Sunday to take part and all enjoyed a 2 hour session learning about first aid for dogs and what to do in the case of an emergency.

The group learnt about CPR for dogs to what to do if their dog gets cut or electrocuted.

Donna Rostron who has adopted a dog from the Shelter called Coby said 'Thank you Steve Byrne for a great first aid course for dogs today learnt some useful tips at the GSPCA'

We have a busy week ahead of us at the Shelter with the GSPCA Purple Week starting on Monday, our AGM Monday evening from 7pm, our 141st birthday on the 14th and a Dog First Aid Course on Sunday 16th February.

Appeal to help Fluke and Barney 2 dogs needing surgery this Christmas

Fluke and Barney are two dogs at the GSPCA who are not only needing new and loving homes but both require operations.

Fluke a Jack Russell needs an operation on his leg and Barney a Collie Cross needs a lump removed.

We are hoping to get both dogs in for their operations before Christmas and we are appealing for funds towards their care.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'Barney and Fluke are two lovely dogs and we are appealing to anyone that would like to help towards their operations.'

Thankfully the incidents of animals being injured by fireworks & bonfires in Guernsey are few and far between; but we mustn’t get too complacent. Below are some basic guidelines that will enable you to help all of our furry and feathered friends to stay calm and safe on and around Bonfire night.

See animals in need - Open Day and Evenings this week at the GSPCA - Pop along for a coffee & check out the goods on sale

The GSPCA is currently inundated with animals in need of new homes.

With World Animal Day on the 4th October we are giving Islanders a chance to view many of the animals in need by having open days and evenings at the GSPCA Animal Shelter on Tuesday the 1st and Wednesday 2nd October between 11am and 8pm and on Thursday 3rd October between 11am until 4pm.

GSPCA ask dog owners to please take care

The GSPCA often receive calls from distressed animal owners for a number of reasons and this year one that has been highlighted is that of dogs attacking other animals.

It is often reported in the press regarding dogs killing chickens that aren't controlled but it doesn't stop there. At the GSPCA we often have other birds, hedgehogs, rabbits and even cats that are reported to the Shelter that have been killed by dogs that aren't under control.

Nouska's check up went well today at the vets

Today Nouska popped along to the vets for a check up and although we don't have the results of what the lump was yet the vet is pleased with how the operation scar is healing.

Nouska is doing well in himself and we are extremely grateful to everyone that has donated to his appeal.
