Taking the course will be GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who has over 23 years working in the field of animal rescue and with over 3000 animals through the doors every year at the GSPCA the team see cases of animal first aid on a daily basis here in Guernsey.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We have been running dog and cat first aid courses for over five years and have trained over 250 participants to help save animals lives.”
Ahead of #WorldBookDay on Thursday 5th March 2020 here is a message from a friend of the GSPCA Marc Abraham BVM&S MRCVS ”I'm the vet and animal welfare campaigner that led the Lucy's Law campaign to help end irresponsible dog and cat breeding practices, like puppy farming, to victory in Westminster.”
“Lucy's Law means that from April 6 2020 in England, 3rd party kitten and puppy dealers will be banned, meaning dogs and cats will only be able to be sourced direct from the breeder, or better still from a reputable rescue shelter like yourselves.”
Two mornings this week the GSPCA once again welcomed Dementia Friendly Guernsey
Dementia Friendly Guernsey wants to encourage as many people as possible to take a local dementia awareness course and the GSPCA team whith the work that we carry out throughout the community feel that it is extremely important that our staff and volunteers have the opportunity for training and skills to help them with whomever we meet.
Last Saturday the GSPCA and Beau Cinema teamed up for the third time with a cinema showing and GSPCA take over in the Beau Sejour foyer.
The Animal Antics event was a screening of Secret Life of Pets 2 and the GSPCA filled the foyer with tombolas and goods to raise funds for the animals in our care, show case our work in displays and we also had a number of animals in need of homes.
During #GSPCAPurpleWeek GSPCA Training and Community Officer headed to Seesaw PreSchool to meet the children, talk about our work at the Animal Shelter and was presented with something very special.
Tim said “I had a lovely time at Seesaw PreSchool in St Johns Church Hall meeting the children, talking about the work of the GSPCA and receiving a very special card.”
Over the weekend we had two oiled guillemots one of which was not the normal black crude oil but rather palm oil which is more often seen in clumps and a danger to dogs eating it when out on a walk.
The continued stormy weather has caused many sick and injured seabirds and at the GSPCA we have helped everything from cormorants to gannets and had many reports of those that have been sadly washed up deceased for various reasons.

Earlier this month we held our annual #GSPCAPurpleWeek which this year celebrated 147 years of the GSPCA helping animals in Guernsey.
During our anniversary event we held our second Volunteer Induction of 2020 and greeted 18 new faces keen to help us at the GSPCA.
Tim Pellett GSPCA Training and Community Officer was on hand to greet and meet the new helpers wanting to help in a variety of ways and made them comfortable in one of our training rooms.
Today is Digital Learning Day and what better day to highlight some amazing support our team received recently from local firm NGIT
The GSPCA are extremely grateful to Doug Belford from NGIT who last week over two mornings helped provide and run Cyber Security training for the staff and volunteers at the GSPCA.
Today the GSPCA celebrates 147 years since the day we were founded.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manage said “On the 14th February 1873 a group of concerned islanders identified there was a need to prevent animal cruelty and promote kindness and this gave birth to the GSPCA.”
147 years ago yesterday there was no such thing as the GSPCA to help animals in Guernsey as today on Valentine's Day we celebrate our anniversary.
Yesterday around 430pm the GSPCA were called out to the Shingle Bank on the West Coast of Guernsey to what they found was a very poorly, thin , dehydrated and chesty grey seal pup.
